Having just had my pacemaker implanted a few weeks ago I would like to hear from other runners who train with a pacemaker.

I too was told to give it at least 6 weeks before running. After you're cleared to run by your physician just start slowly and work your way up. Don't be surprised if you have to have a few pacemaker adjustments along the way.
Good luck,
Angelie

I've had my pm for 2 years now. I first got it a month before I was to do my first marathon. I didn't run for the first 6 weeks but have run frequently since. I'm doing a marathon in June(God willing). The only issue I have is when my bpm reach the upper limit of my pm. Then I have to slow down is all. But I'm never in much of a hurry anyway.
Take care,
Rusty
Feel good? Go for it - Train Hard!

I had my pacelmaker implanted last August. My doc told me that running would jostle my leads, so two days later I ran a little over a mile keeping my arm firmly to my side. Three weeks after my third ablation, and the pacemaker insertion, I ran a 5K in 20:56 and came in 25th of 800+. Less than 5 months later, I ran a 3:17 marathon.
Yesterday I ran a "Michigan" workout; warmup, mile, mile, .75, mile, .5, mile, .25, mile; 1.5 mile warmup, 5:53, 6:43, 4:40, 6:54, 2:58, 7:13, 1:22, 7:17.
I am 46 years old. I feel great and intend to train harder and set PR's faster than my prepacemaker days.
Go for it!
Dan

Running with a pacemaker
by Graham H - 2009-05-17 06:05:06
Hi Tom,
I had my pacemaker fitted this time last year and on the advice of my GP took a month off from running after the implant. Before the op I struggled with inclines and was disappointed when I still found myself short of breath so I went to see the technician and he increased my active heart rate which solved the problem and now I run 4/5 miles 4 times a week as before no problem. I've now entered a 1/2 marathon to raise money for the BHF as a small token of my appreciation.
