Sick to stomach all the time

With my current medications I feel nausea and sick to my stomach all the time. I am currently taking 6mg Warfarin, 360mg Diatoazem, 0.25mg Digoxin, 150mg Toprol daily. 37.5mg Trimaterene is taken 3 days a week.

Which one I these medicines is most likely to cause nausea and stomach problems? I am currently too sick to go work because of the side effects.

I took Amiodarone for three years and stopped taking it one year ago because if was affecting my eyes. Since them the doctor has been trying various medications to control my Atrial Fibrillation. The medication slows down but does not stop the Atrial Fibrillation

Feeling Bad

by SMITTY - 2009-06-04 12:06:18

Hello Johnb,

My guess it is the combination of the 360mg Diltiazem, 0.25mg Digoxin and 150mg Toprol daily that is the main reason you are feeling poorly. The warfarin (blood thinner) can cause stomach problems, but the Trimaterene (potassium diuretic) is not likely to contribute to the problems as have. But who knows when you take the amounts of this and the other drugs you are taking. I will add it is possible the Trimaterene has you dehydrated and that in itself can be a contributor to many problems.

Actually, I have taken Diltiazem, Digoxin and Toprol at the same time (at lower dosages than you take) and never had a problem with nausea. However, I did feel like death warmed over.

I have to say I'm not surprised that you feel bad, but I can't tell you what to do about it except talk to your doctor.

Good luck,

Smitty

I would ask the pharmacist, then take his advice back to the dr and see if you can get your cocktail changed. Sometimes the doctors don't really know what the mix will do, only what each individual prescrip will do.

DRUGS

Digoxin did it for me. I got awful nausea. I felt as though life was not worth living. Then I got a pacemaker and the digoxin dose was trebled. I dont get nausea anymore. But why??? Which goes to show nothing in medicine is straightforward. If I dont take the digoxin I start going down hill within 24 hours. Its the only heart medicine that I have benefitted from. I have great faith in it. It is notorious for giving nausea though. Cheers Peter

I hate Digoxin

I think the nausea is caused by Digoxin. Every time I go to doctor I complain about nausea and getting tired while standing. He tries different medications but the Warfarin and Digoxin haven;t changed.

I scheduled an ablation operation for next month and if it works I can finally get off the medications.

I've finally given in-I am not living when I'm taking all those medicines and besides that I stay in chronic afib even with all the meds. Dr said he doesn't think any other changes of the meds will work....so I'm having the ablation. He also said it probably won't be very successful because I also have CHF with HCM. Wish me well please, because I don't have any expectations anymore.

Nausea with digoxin

I am a medic. 0.25mg of digoxin is rather high as a dose. Excess digoxin causes nausea. That is where I would begin. Dose is age related, kidney function related, and drug interaction related. The answer is to have your blood level checked and if too high have the dose adjusted. You need to see your doctor.
