I received my ICD on April 7, 2009. I had a wound check on April 17. When I left the doctor's office they said they'd let me know when the follow up was. I heard from them and they scheduled my follow up for 3 mos. That seemed kind of long with no intermediate follow up following the implant. What's the norm that most of you have heard about that first post implant follow up timing?

If all is going well, then I wouldn't be concerned about it. However, if you have any problems as you start to get more active you may need to ask (or demand) a followup programming session.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.

It's longer than average but not unheard of. A lot has to do with insurance, how often they'll pay for it. ICD's aren't as tricky to program as pacemakers because they serve a different function so it's not as crucial to be seen quickly. It's there for backup, not for everyday pacing. If you feel bad call them sooner, but three months should be fine if you're not having symptoms.
