Hair Loss

Has anyone had problems with hair loss since being on heart meds like Coreg? I have noticed an increase in hair loss when I shampoo. The nurse practitioner says it isn't connected with my meds. They did some blood work to check the thyroid and it was normal.

I never had hair loss BEFORE I began the Coreg.

Thanks,
Shelia

skin, hair, and nail vitamin

You could also try taking a skin, hair, and nails vitamin available at most drugstores. I take them because after my gastric bypass I was losing my hair and my nails were cracking alot. The vitamins help strengthen both your hair and nails. Now, I do not have any problems with it. You could ask your pharmacist or doctor if they think it may help.

Hi.

I experienced hair loss when I was put on Medicinal Weed for chronic pain. Its called Cesamet here in Canada and is in tablet form.

Anyways, I was to the point where I had to make a decision to stay on the drug and continue to lose hair or give up the Cesamet and be in chronic pain. I stayed on Cesamet and approximately one month after starting it, the hair loss stopped.

I always find my pharmacist more informative when it comes to asking about side effects. As it is my opinion that most doctors only know what the drug is used for.

If you just started your Coreg, give it some time. Some side effects will disappear after a few weeks.

Me Too

For the past year I have experienced hair loss. My doc cut my thyroxine down from 100mcg to 75mcg per day. I bame this He will not believe me and let me take 100mcg on sundays. I also have started taking it on Wednesdays. Hair loss not so bad now.

I mentioned it to my cardio. He said sometimes a doc has to listen to a patient and review bloods which are not always right. My doc won't listen and has referred me to a skin specialist which is in 3 months. I think I will be bald by then!!!

I have recently had gastric problems and sometime ago was put on another blood pressure tablet.Amiodipine(as besylate) tablets. When I questioned this I was told no it was not causing my problem.

I cannot take multivitamin pills as I absorb too much iron but will certainly look at a skin, hair and nails vitamin. This site certainly helps with all our problems.

Thanks to all who have responded. Just this evening I met a lady whose husband suffered hair loss after beginning his Coreg. She said his loss leveled out after about a year or so.

Also, my hair dresser suggested BIOTIN (a dietary supplement for hair, nails and skin). She said it was over-the-counter and would help in stopping the hair loss and would be good for my nails, too. I guess I should probably check with the pharmacist as suggested above before taking anything like that.

Has anyone ever used BIOTIN?

Biotin

Biotin is the main ingredient in the hair, skin, and nails vitamins. It tried taking biotin, but it was not as effective on your nails as the one made for all 3, my nails kept cracking. But it is supposed to be good for your hair as well. The only thing is my other half could not take certain brands because some contain Echinacea, and is allerigic to it. So you have to see what is in it. The Life Fitness brand at CVS does not contain Echinacea. The Vitamin Shoppe has the Echinacea in it, so I take that because it does not bother me, but after I am done with those I will be going on the Life Fitness brand as well. If you watch you can get them Buy 1 Get 1 free at times at CVS.
