I have my 3 month phone checkup on Wednesday 8/5/09. My ? is ,are there any surprises that I should be aware of? There are some questions that I should ask my Dr. concerning some minor discomfort in the top of my left shoulder at times and a brief period of SOB after walking up 3 flights of stairs which I sometimes do after my 4 mile walk and 1 hour in the gym.I think that I may be over doing it a bit.By the way ,my pulse rate averages between 62 to 72,which is up from 37 to 42 before PM.Maybe needs to be tweaked a bit to get my heart rate closer to 80.Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Phone Checkups

If your phone checkups are like mine they are about as near nothing as you will find. On mine they down load any data collected by the pacemaker and will check to see if the pM is still doing what the settings call for. Then I put a magnet over the PM and they will do something for about 30 seconds. The they pronounce my PM in good shape and tell me when my next checkup is scheduled. They are not allowed to make any settings changes, nor can they discuss any results they download from stored information until after the doctor has looked at them.
I will surprised if you can get answers to any of the questions you mention since it is usually a nurse/technician that does the phone checkup. Also as I mentioned your question about tweaking your pacemaker during a phone checkup is not allowed by FDA. Now, I live in the states and if you live in another country the rules may be different.
One final word, my phone checkups usually take about 5 or 6 minutes. I'll spend more time getting ready for them than they spend on the checkup.
Good luck,
J. B.

Your comments are about what I expected.Guess if I want any answers, will have to call my Dr. So,in other words, just a waste of time.Guess they have to do something to justify some of the high costs.Appreciate your comments and will certainly demand that they send me a copy of the results.
Got a ? for you guys. What are your normal rates, trying to figure out what's normal so that I can see how my numbers stack up to what the so called normal rates are.
Thanks again.
