pace maker Dependent

I hope someone can answer a question for me. My son was pace maker dependent and had to AV node ablation. He passed away suddenly two weeks ago. How could his heart just stop beating if the pace maker was doing the beating for it. he was fine and suddenly couldn't breath and was gone within an hour.
If anyone could help me understand this I would appreciate it so much. I was in to much shock at the time to ask the ER dr and now I can't seem to find him.
Thank You for any help you may have to offer.

My very sincerest condolences on the loss of your son. There is no greater tragedy for a parent. I can't even begin to imagine your pain and need for answers.

The pacemaker generates the electric impulse that causes the heart to beat, it doesn't actually do the beating. It can't make the muscle respond and pump blood, it can't make the lungs process the oxygen we breath in, it can't make the brain keep going once it shuts down. That little electric impulse is just a small part of a much greater process.

I'm sending prayers. I can't even imagine what you are going through right now. And I just lost my husband 5 weeks ago. However, I think losing a son would be unthinkable.

TracyE answered your questions very well. I'm sure your son's doctor would be glad to explain in a more personal way. At least, I hope so!

Again, let me say how sorry I am for your loss. I know how ineffective words can be at a time like this. Just know that people do really care....

Prayers to your family,
Suze

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
