Hi! My replacement was a breeze. Easiest surgery I've ever had, and from what I hear from others, they have similar results. Lead extraction can be trickier. Are they going to attempt this or just put new leads in? The same risks are involved with the first surgery.. bleeding, collapsed lung, etc.
What you need to do is talk to your physician who will be doing the surgery. They are legally responsible to give you informed consent. Before you sign that paper, ask these questions, don't be afraid to get into the details. Also if you can do your own research, but sometimes that can be more harmful than good depending on the website's trustworthiness.
You know you're wired when...
Your ICD has a better memory than you.

Allison, replacement is relatively same as the original. Recovery similar as we'll. no major risks as pacers are nearly outpatient these days.. You'll be ok
