Frustrations...
Hello everyone! I am just in the mood for sharing and support. I have been through the ringer with the Department of Transportation for the last three months, and I'm very frustrated. For those of you who don't know my story, I blacked out in January while driving. I had lots of testing, mainly Neuro testing at first. I blacked out again in rather dramatic fashion in February while riding in my boyfriend's car. At this point, the ER reported that I had a seizure to the DOT. This started a barage of paperwork. I was sent to a cardiologist after the neurologist cleared me and completed the proper paperwork for the DOT stating I did not have a seizure.
In short, I ended up having lots of heart rate drops including some major pauses, and my blood pressure was dropping. Once I had the pacemaker implanted in April, I was released by the doctor to drive. My EP completed the necessary forms for the DOT, but, oopsy, marked the wrong box on the form stating that I was not competent to operate a motor vehicle. I caught it on my copy that I received in the mail, and, subsequently, my EP completed a new version of the form and sent the correction to the DOT stating the I AM competent to drive.
Now, today, I received a letter in the mail from the DOT stating I need to send my license in by 7/20/09, as I have been deemed unable to safely operate a motor vehicle due to a cardiovascular disease!!! I just wondered if anyone else went through any of this stuff...I have been given suggestions to go to the courthouse and file an appeal or to go to the State Reps office to see about some help...just don't know what to do at this point...it's been months of frustrations...
Thanks for all the support...

DOT Decision

The first thing to do before getting too stressed out is to contact the appropriate department and ask for information on your current status and options for appeal. It could be as simple as a mixup over the corrected form. Ask for the information in writing.
best of luck,

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!

Frank has said it right but you could also go to your DR. and ask him to write a letter to the DOT explaing your improved condition. After all it was his mix up to start with. He should help correct it. Bowlrbob
