CRT-P Pacemaker

I'm having dyssyncrony between ventricles with a high QRS and a lowered ejection fraction (low 40%) with some mild/moderate dilation of both ventricles. EP feels it's caused by the dual lead PM I have (lead in atrium and RV) and he feels I need a CRT-P so heart function doesn't continue to deteriorate. I have been pacing in ventricles at over 90% since PM was installed 4/15.  What's everyone's experience with reduced heart function caused by a dual lead PM and the res...

pacemaker irregularity

In the first two weeks the pacemaker worked fine.  This morning my heart rate shot up to 90 (it was set at 55) and since then  it has fluctuated between 80 and 55.  Is this an emergency or can I wait until I see the cardiologist tomorrow?y

Palpitations and insomnia

I've had my device for ten days and it seems to be working fine.  However, I have not had a good night's sleep since and at night I get low palpitations on the RIGHT side of my chest.  I can't see my cardiologist until January 10 and wondered if anyone had exeprienced either of these symptoms.

re: manicures/pedicures

This may be a stupid question but...do I now have to be careful when getting a manicure/pedicure as far as being exposed to any bacteria that a person may be exposed to during a general manicure/pedicure?

St. Jude ICD Battery Leak and Corrosion Causing Severe Infection

I know there is a recall for the St Jude ICD related to battery power...  that's not what I need.

Does ANYONE know of anyone who had the battery leak into the heart causing a severe infection, or has it happened to you?  This happened to my Dad last October.....  he was rushed into surgery to have it removed.  The infection was so bad he couldn't have it replaced and he died last week.  The last year has been awful for him.  We promised him we would...

Newbie

Hi.  I found your site and have been lurking.  I had a Pacemaker inserted on 11/9/18 after an Ablation for SVT.

The story is long and unfortunate.

In 2015, I underwent an Ablation for SVT.  The procedure was easy and I was cured of SVT that had been going on since 2003 with increasing frequency.  In 2018, the SVT re-occured with a rapid rate of 260 and a wide QRS complex  The second time in SVT at 260 scared me (and my doctor).  I underwent a st...

PM or PM wires protruding skin

I’ve had a PM for the past 22yrs with no issues or discomfort. In Feb 18 however, the PM started to move and eventually started pushing against the skin In the left region of my chest near the armpit. Had a procedure to shift it back in placebut then in Oct 18 a PM wire protruded the skin. The wire protruded from the site of an old PM surgery scar. Again had a reburrowing procedure to push the wire back under the skin.

Was advised by Dr that there is a 50%...

Medical complication

Just got it 3 weeks ago. Instead of a one hour procedure, I stayed 6 days in the hospital.

The procedure went wrong: by introducing one of the two probes into the subclavian vein, it penetrated the pleura, causing a pneumothorax. It was necessary to transfer me urgently in pneumatology to introduce in the lung a probe in order to evacuate the air and the water which accumulated. The doc tried several times to bring this pipe into my ribcage (it had frozen me very superficially at t...

Pacemaker Induced Cardiomyopathy??????

I had a dual lead PM placed 4/2015 for complete heart block with coronary sinus ventricle lead to avoid my surgically repaired tricuspid valve.  There was a dip in echocardiogram a few months later (7/15) in low 40% but the next 2 echos after that 2016 and 2017 showed normal ejection fraction (mid-high 50's). Coronary sinus lead appears to have lost capture sometime in late 2017 and a holter monitor in 9/2017 showed nearly 30% PVC burden. The next echo in 3/18 showed a 42% EF and PM...

Left arm and shoulder pain

I'm now 2 months out from my implant of a pacemaker and I've really started to notice a lot of pain in my shoulder and left arm. To the point it is a burning  pain. My left arm is often weak or not as strong as previously. When I ask my docs, they just tell me to take otc pain meds. I've also noticed that on really cold days, I ache more in my shoulder and site area. I have been in weather temps the last couple days of temps under 28 and the pain gets really bad and will ling...

Mammography and oacemakers

In late 2013 I had a mammogram done in the facility where I have had most of my mammograms - the Tech was especially aggressive and when I cautioned her that I have a pacemaker her pat answer was “ mammograms do not interfere with pacemakers”. Starting in January of 2014 I began having pulsations in my left anterior chest wall intermittently.  However due to the fact that my pacemaker still had at least or over a “year of battery life left”. I was advised tha...

sensitivity and weird crawly feelings

Hello all,

I called and spoke with my device center. Left message for nurse and haven't heard back yet.

My PM was inserted in April. I live in MN and am outside from usually 11am - 4pm M-F. Today was 23 degrees. I am seriously feeling cold especially on my chest even with 3 layers on.

I have no bra or straps on near the incision. Only a base layer shirt.

Today it felt as if if weird creepy crawly movements were going from bottom of the PM to my collar bone.

I...

Site pain years after implant

I had a Medtronic sure scan implanted at the end of 2012 to help with some syncope. Over the past year I lift anything heavy I get shoulder pain and then my lymphnodes around my PM swell up and hurt. Over the year it has taken less and less movement for pain to occur. My last visit in May I brought this up and Doc said it was in the right place and I must have just been hitting the device. I am 35 and have two young kids so not lifting things with my left arm isn't a viable option. Anyone...

Can it break?

Can a pacemaker break in your chest? My boston terrier weighs about 40lbs jumped up on my chest this morning and I heard a pop and I'm afraid he damaged it, now the area just feels weird. It feels like its moved. Am I nuts, just worrying about it or should I be concerned  and call the doc?

Issues every 8 hours

My PM was installed 9/7/18.  Since then I thought I was having arrythmia (as I used to), but now I believe it is a setting that does something every 8 hours, on the hour.  7 a.m., 3 p.m. & 11 p.m.  I've logged it and that's what it is.  Does anyone have this same type of scenario going on?

In addition, it was necessary to have mine on my right side due to lympnode issue due to cancer.  But when this 8 hour timing thing happens, there is something tha...

Guardian: "Faulty medical implants harm patients around the world"

This article has just been published by the UK's Guardian newspaper, but refers to problems with implants around the world and I thought might be of interest to some here.

Link: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2018/nov/25/revealed-faulty-medical-implants-harm-patients-around-world

Patients around the world are suffering pain and many have died as a result of faulty medical devices that have been allowed on to the market by a system dogged by poo...
