Is pregnancy a problem?

I am new to the pm world, so I was curious if pregnancy has more complications with a pacemaker than a normal pregnancy? I am 28 and had a catheter ablation that went awry, which led to me having heart block, and then the pacemaker...but I really want to start a family soon...any advice out there?

Sharon's Update

Hi pacers,
Well, I saw our wonderful Sharon today at the hospital (the same hospital she had her PM implant) and her knee replacement went well.
She is in good hands. The nurse on call was very nice to her and he said, "I just met her when I got on shift today, and she is just lovely", so as you can see, she has that instant effect on people.
She wanted to tell all of you that she truly appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers, and that you are such wonderful people on this s...

I done flipped my pace maker..

Okay so here is the deal...this is kinda funny really. I was leaning over last week to hit a friend of mine with a book and I laid back down (we were on the beach) and I felt something funny in the area of my PM abut the same time my friend did this weird gasping sound. She pointed and I looked down and my PM wasn't laying flat...it was on it's side. *gringes* and yes...it hurt. I put my hand over it and it flipped back down. Not very gently I might add. It hurt but felt okay and I started laugh...

Here's a thought.

I heard this on my radio station that I wake up to each morning.
Is 99.9% is good enough and this does sound like a pretty good average. This means that approximately 2500 pacemakers would be improperly installed during a 1 year period. I guess that a 99.9% average is good enough depending on what it is you are talking about. Bowlrbob

Alcohol effects

I just had an interesting checkup. When I was connected to my doctor's computer, he could tell when I had been drinking, such as Christmas and my Birthday, by the spikes of dysrhythmia when I had a lot to drink! Life is just a ballance of coffee and alcohol, and both seem to effect me. Combinations of the two seem to do the worst. The doctor doesn't think I can do any permanent damage, but wants to put me on cumidin if I have more episodes to prevent stroke. I think I have enough blood thin...

Surgery scheduled!!!

Hi everyone,
So I had my consultation this morning and my dr. is going to let me wean off ALL of my meds which make me feel so terrible(YAYYYYY) so we will see how I feel the next few days with the drugs. My PM implant surgery is scheduled for this Friday morning, June 8th. I am now excited and all of the sudden my husband is nervous. I think that has partly to do with the fact that my parents are coming down to help out just for a couple days while I recover, so he has to deal with his...

Running After Pacemaker

I would consider myself a good distance runner but, this last year or so I've been having trouble breathing while I was running. I went from running 5min 30sec a mile to barely breaking 7min 30sec a mile. There were a few other symptoms, such as lightheadedness, syncope, bradycardia, etc.., that lead to me seeing my Doctor and the diagnosis that I need a pacemaker. I am 24 year old male, and I am pretty nervous how I will feel after the operation.

I've read a lot on this forum and the...

Introductions...

I recently found this site and was glad to see all the optimism and positive information about PMs and heart disease. I have read about 20 threads and feel there are many people here that can be of assistance to me and others with questions and concerns.
I am 29 years old, and just had a PM implanted 2 weeks ago. After the first week of headaches and soreness past, I began to feel so much better! I still have to take it easy though, as not to disrupt the leads of course. For someone who has...

pain, due to meds???

My DR.s put me on nortriptyline 75mg at bedtime, after I recieved my implant on Oct.16.06. I have bradycardia and I am 30yrs old. They said it was for chronic pain.(migraine sufferer) I was having lots of pain at/around my heart and pacer, they said it was in my head or indigestion. Well, I stopped taking meds (cold turkey) Apr.23.07. The pains have now subsided to where I may have a pain once or twice a week. I was worried about getting migraines and haven't even had a headache. Not sure wha...

direct tv anyone?

Hi people,
Have you heard of that new show coming out on TNT, called “Heartland”? The important thing I wanted to point out is that there are no cute guys on there….or at least on the preview.
Hahaha, jk, not what I came to post for, haha, but rather it looks interesting and apparently some of the “extras” are actual cardiologist, or so I’m told.
Keep your eye open for the previews if you have no clue what I’m talking about, which is common at times, hehehe.
It usually comes...

New knee!

Hello Friends - Tomorrow I am getting my knee replacement and ask that you to please think good thoughts and say a prayer. I expect it will go very well and I will be back on line Friday or Saturday. Though it is just a few days I will miss checking to see what is going on with everyone. Thanks for always being supportive. With a both artificial knees and my pacemaker I am really going to be "bionic". Hope nothing else needs replacing!!!

New to the group

I just had an ICD implanted on 5/30, and so far, so good. The pain was much less than I expected and the incision looks good, but I do have a lot of black and blue down my arm to my elbow. Normal?? I have been put on Amiodarone and that scares the hell out of me after reading the recent posts here and the possible side effects listed for the drug, it reminds me of the warnings on Draino. How dies one deal with seat belts riding over the device?

edema

Hi Folks - I need help yet again. I did a search here on edema and came up with a little info. As mentioned my husband has had his bi-ventricular ICD a little less than 2 weeks. His feet are swelling and he is experiencing quite a bit of SOB (not like the flash pulmonary edema he was experiencing before which was the reason for the 3 lead). I am definitely calling someone on Monday, but in the meantime trying to get through the weekend. From my search it seems that some people have experien...

Blue Moon

Hello Everyone - Have you all enjoyed seeing the "Blue Moon" which occurred last night? Here in Orange County is was absolutely brilliant and I expect it will be again tonight. Don't know what a "Blue Moon" is, you say. That is when there are 2 full moons within one calendar month. Doesn't happen too often, hence the saying "once in blue moon". Just a little trivia for the day. Blessings to each and every one of you!

Consultation on June 5th

Hi everyone, thanks for your support lately. Yes I have an appointment on Tuesday morning June 5th to consult about and schedule my pacemaker implant surgery. I wish it were here already, I am so more than ready to feel better and hopefully wean off of these medications. They make me feel terrible (Midodrine 10mg 3 times per day and Toprol XL 50mg once per day at night). If they want to do it to me that day I say do it. I'm ready. Thanks y'all again and I'll keep you posted. Just trying t...
