Thanks Valerie for sending out the update. I just got home and what do you know the first thing I do get on here. This time the pain is far worse than the others. The drugs sure don't last as long as I wish. They took my entire SA Node and as Valerie said my pulse is now set to a normal speed at 70 entering into surgery it was sitting at 130 he said it didn't take much work figuring out things.

Remote interrogation - Guidant

Hi Everyone - Those of you with Guidant pacemakers like me I have a question for you. Did any of you receive an unsolicited remote interrogation setup from Guidant. Yesterday I talked to a good friend who lives about 20 miles from me though not at all rural and he received via FedEx a letter telling him he would receive the device via FedEx within the next week. Another Update to Endless Pain

Hi everyone,

Well, no idea yet what's happening. Had lung scan, nothing. Ultrasounds of both legs and my arm show nothing. No clot evidence, at least not yet.

Yet, my left arm (the pacer side) continues to swelling in other places and the pain is just as unrelenting. When I was at the hosp the other day for my ultrasounds, I stopped in to visit the pacer people and showed them my arm. PM phone check-ups

I have had my PM for 5 years now and I used to have them checked over the phone every 3 months, then it became every 2 months, and for the last 5 months it has been every month. I see my EP doc once a year (July) and have a PM check in the office every year. By them changing my phone checks once a month, does that mean that my PM battery is on it's last leg? Just curious if anyone knows.

6 questions - can you help?

Hi again. My 2nd posting. I'm having an ICD put in on 4th July 2007, a week later than the original date of 27th June. (Happy Independence to America).

Can anyone answer these?

1. What is a basic explanation of how the ICD works when the heart rate is too fast?

2. Does the ICD shock you according to what it detects - or is that preset by your doctor?

3. Are there any activities that can set off a shock that are unrelated to problems with the heart?...

Touchscreens

Since we found out that using a bodyfat tester was not recommended for ICD patients I was wondering if the same applies to touch-screen monitors. I know that they use some kind of electric current to calculate where your finger is pressing on the screen. With things like the iPhone coming out and other entertainment devices like touch-screen games you see at bars etc. I wonder if there is a risk of unnecessary shock from using touch screens. Hmmmm....

Ladies bathing suit types after PM?


I am only one month post-op with my PM, but am looking forward to going to the pool soon. Do any ladies have ideas of a suit style that will hide my scar (I read that sun exposure will cause darkening), and cover my "bump"? There has to be others who have had to figure this out among you all. Thanks

Tammy's Update

Hi pacer world,
I'm sure you all remember Tammy (member name: tcrabtree85). Well, I just got an update from her and she made it through her ablation and she is feeling well (she just sounds a bit tired, but that's expected). Her ablation lasted 3 hours, which she said is the shortest one she's had. Her pulse is now 70! (vs. 100 or so before the ablation).
She is just waiting to get the okay to move around, and she should be discharged tomorrow afternoon. Why they are unleashing this...

Weather.....

The weather has not been the best here in Alberta, Canada and lately we have been getting our fair share of rain, thunder and lightening. My question is, does anyone have concerns about being out when lightening is happening - we are probably be more succeptable in being hit then someone without a pm. Within the last week, several people have been hit by lightening here in Alberta.

hot tubs

hi my name is Ashley Amaro I went into a hot tub one day in the summer of 2005 and I also went in a pool too and in a couple of minutes my lips and fingertips turned a blue color after about ten minutes and later that summer I went to my doctor in Boston Mass and I told her and she was shocked she said no more hot tubs I can go in them but then can not be any hotter then 82 degrees please e-mail me a dolphinfan4@verizon.net thanks

Has Anyone Tried the EPFX/SCIO?

The EPFX/SCIO scans the electromagnetic frequencies of the body similar to the virus-scan on a computer. I had a diagnostic session the other day and while they would not hook me up in the same way they monitored my wife, the session seemed to be helpful just being next to the computer.

My concern is that if they do not want to hook me up in the regular manner, perhaps this tool is not for me. Sad, if so, since it seems to be a remarkable device.

Pacemaker Got Hit...

Hello, I'm a 34 yo male and have had a dual chamber Medtronic pacemaker for about 3 months now, working beautifully. A couple days ago however, it took a direct hit from my 9 year old son's flying elbow during some horseplay :) which shoved it inward and pulled the skin over it. It still seems to be working just fine, but the site is extremely tender and there's this internal itch throughout the entire area that is driving me insane.
