valve problem

hello there,

you're a smart bunch...

does anyone know that if you have a sluggish valve, will it ALWAYS show up on ECG? or is this something the dr.'s can hear on exam and get an echo to diagnose?

thank you!

conditions improving

Hi again! Thanks for the responses to my questions/comments of 11-01. Now that it's 8wks post-PM, some of my symptoms have settled down quite a bit. (yay!) The armpit area still gets pains often, as I use my arm all day on my job. But neck, back and chest/breast pains are greatly reduced. This is very encouraging.
Since my check-up w/PM tech, I have not felt the PM pace at all. Since that was my 6wk mark, I started using my arm overhead as soon as her check proved everything ok. Before...

does any one know about regugitation?

Hi all. God bless all the wonderful people here. Its been a while for me....sorry. But i was just wondering if any of u know anything regarding tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary regurgitation. I was looking at my medical records that i recently got from my doc and there was a time that i had an echo about a year ago and it said that i had moderate tricuspid regugitation and pulmonic valve regugitation. I guess i am asking because i was never told by any of my docs that i had this problem un...

Magnets topic

Magnets do indeed impact the operation of the PM.

Security devices should be passed through quickly, otherwise they can interfere with your PM.

As for speakers, they operate on the principle of magnetism/electricity causing vibration. They too impact PMs.

Several intersections causing symptoms of magnetic field:
it could be there are antennas in the vicinity, security devices, or other interfering electro-magnetic fields.

When you feel the disrup...

thanks!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my message yesterday (side effects of pacemakers). The responses are reassuring! I'm sorry to have caused anyone unnecessary anxiety. At the end of the day, most of us here are alive/functioning better because of these devices and I wouldn't want to put anyone off having one on the basis of 'hearsay'.
This site is always a great resource for information that is not always easy to find elsewhere, and Im really grateful to you all for your time.

I'm still alive!

Hi all. It has been quite a while since I visited the Club. Part of the absence has been due to my pacemaker working so well that I forgot about it! This summer I rented a Jeep in Colorado and explored only mining roads at altitudes as high as 13,500 ft. Then I hiked up trails to almost 14,000 ft.
The other thing in my life is that my wife Mary died in April. She had been going through a rough time since July 06 and I was busy helping her. Her death precipitated some pacemaker related issu...

side effects of PMs

Hi everyone,
Ive just come back from a regular PM check (in the UK) and was told that I am being paced about 25% of the time. The doctor said this was 'good'- I said, 'why- because my battery will last longer?' and he said, 'yes, but also because your heart is unlikely to be damaged by pacing at this level'.

I didn't ask for any more details at the time but now I'm starting to wonder about what he said. This is the first time I had heard of this- perhaps I have been living in a...

Back to the gym

Well, I am now 9 days post PM implant and doing well. Mildly freaked out by the PM with this heart rate so much faster then I'm used too plus with the rate response just going up a couple of flights of stairs brings me to 100! Just not used to that. I went back to the gym tonight for a bit of running and had I'm sure some common problems. Anyway I thought I would throw out there and see if someone had a miracle answer!

1) Has anyone figured out a solution to the sports bra problem? I...

Forgot to introduce myself

Hi,

I just jumped right in to posting my question about low battery and forgot to introduce myself. I am 63 and have a St. Jude Pacemaker and it was put in 2002.

I was just so concerned about my condition that I forgot to say hello.

This site is great and finding it will help me a lot.

Take care,

swelling, feels like heart beating hard

Received my pm last December. I have lost a little weight, but not enough (I don't think) that it would make the pm show so much. Sometimes I get a lot of swelliing around it, I can feel the leads. IT was placed under my clavical. My doctor and surgeon have both checked it out and said it was fine, the leads are stable, but I just have a feeling that there is something not right. Any suggestions???? thanks.

Surgery to relocate PM

Hello fellow PM folks! Hope everyone is well!

In June 1999 rec'd my first PM. In July 1999 had PM relocated as it was hitting my collar bone! Ick!. On April 3rd, 2007, 8 years later, not bad... I had a new Medtronic PM/Battery put in, however, the location isn't too good on this PM and a wire is protruding out with that skin being very thin! Yikes! On Nov. 8th, Thursday I am going in to have my PM relocated under my muscle. All sorts of feelings as one prepares for the out-patie...

Question about low battery

I was told in Feb. 07 that my battery had 9 mos. left on it. Then the tech. person cut something off that extended its life. After that I have slowly been losing strength and ablity to walk very far. I was walking 1/2 mile a day and am not able to do that anymore.

Then one month ago, I noticed that I seemed to be getting weaker and weaker. I can't walk anywhere much at all, without feeling like I am climbing Mt. Everest. Then 1 1/2 weeks ago, I went further down and have an appt....

Bradycardia causes

Hello fellow PMers,
I have had a PM since Aug. 28,2007. Over night my pulse went to below 30. I am very active and there was no indication of a problem before this incidence. In fact I had run 5.5 km two days before with no difficulties. The doctors immediately said I needed a PM. I spent three days in the intensive station while they monitored my heart. My pulse with medication stayed at around 35 the whole time. The doctors could find no reason for this condition. They had thought it migh...
