I was sitting at the computer typing on Friday when my pacemaker started shocking me around the implant device area and my pulse started racing. I felt terrible, head pounding, and drove to the doctor's office. They checked my pacemaker and said that my pulse shot up to 226 beats per minute and that my pacemaker was set to shock it back down if it went over 125. I have been having tachycardia for seven months and am on Nadolol 40 mg but this isn't stopping these episodes of racing heartbeat t...

Just wanted to give a shout out to our friend, bowlrbob, who is having a birthday tomorrow!!! Bob, you've been a great friend to many and we appreciate your sharing your experiences with us and explaining the rate drop response feature for pacemakers. I know you've helped many--especially all us NCS patients. We have to stick together! You are a super friendly guy and a bright spot around the site. Thanks for being you. You were one of the first people I met on this site and were very kind...

Can the pacemaker become dislodged and what would it feel like? I am 4 weeks post op and have been active but not up to my normal activity level. The site burns and I am aware of the pacemaker at all times. How do I know when the tissue has grown around the site enough to be able to pick up my little grandchildren? Thank you.
Medic Alert Bracelets
I'm new here and just had my PM installed at the end of Feb. of this year.
I was told to get a medical alert bracelet. Also was told not to buy the over the counter ones because they don't last and after about a week they begin to look terrible. I don't know if that is true since I haven't purchased one yet.
My question is does everyone here wear a medical alert bracelet. Where can I get a decent or good one and a good price???

Mr Webmater, sir. is it possible to make the gallery searchable or have pics linked to a username? I love the gallery, but sometimes you want to put a face to the name and it's not designed for that purpose.
Thanks.

hi all and Happy Easter !
I 'm having problems and ended up in the ER last Thursday. I had chest pain and I had a sort of "quivering" feeling in my chest. by the time I got there ( 2 hours) all was normal on the EKG. I also have COPD and had a hard time breathing and so they gave me a breathing treatment and different asthma spray "that is not so hard on my heart".
I'm having a problem with my cardiologist. He does not explain anything, just gives me meds and tells me to come back in 3...

My Dad had a defibulator/pacemaker implanted 3 weeks ago. He is 77 years old and doesn't use the computer but I am worried about him and found you all online. HE doesn't really have any specific complaints but just generally does not feel good. The incision and site he says he cannot even feel anymore. He does really have any energy, wants to sleep all day and no zest for life or going back to work. I think he is just in a funk because this is life changing and one of his first realities to agin...

I am still pretty fragile(3 weeks post implant). It is very comforting to know that my problems for the most part are not unique. I went back to work last week. I still do not have the stamina that I would like, but being back in the office was therapeutic. I am moving on, albeit slower than I have anticipated. It is easier to move on having had the benefit of the comments from a "caring group of new chatline friends". I had an appointment @ PM clinic thurs. and my ventricular setting was set lo...

Just wanted to send a general "Thanks" for continuing to provide us with information on our PM settings and what they mean to our feelings of well-being. I am referring to your recent responses on "Rate Drop" and "Rate Response" questions. Good info in easily understood language is always appreciated. ThankYou,
Carol

Hello
I had my PM put in June 2006. In June 2007 I was put on Toprol XL(1/2 tab 50mg or 25mg dose). In Dec 2007 that was increase to a full tab or 50mg dose once per day.
They wanted to help control my irregular beat as well as help lower my resting heart rate as it is higher than normal.(80' & 90's). I wondered how many of you are on Toprol.
The reason for my PM Install they discover I had a condition that would caused my heart to "pause" which also caused my MVC (Mo...

Hello Everyone,
I had my PM put in last June of '07. Just recently I began walking a little a the school behind my home. Only on level land on the sidewalk.
Well, yesterday evening, I decided to walk further. I strolled about twice as far as usual and a little bit of it was uphill.
Since completing the walk I have had irregular heart beats. Feels like flutters and skips off and on. Today is a little better, but, I still have them off and on.
I had the...

Is there any scheduled chat times, or are chats just when folks just happen to meet up in the room? Thanks!

Hi I am 73 years old female and I had a pacemaker put in in Feb. 2007 because I had atrial fibrillation and palpitations which I tried to take medication for for about 5 months. I ended up with an ablation which stops the feeling of the afib but it is still happening so I have to be on coumadin to thin my blood in case of blood clots. I am 100% dependent on my pacemaker. My Dr. told me if I get shot and the bullet hits the pacemaker and saves my life I will be dead because the pacer will be...

Ealizing recovery is longer than anticipated
Thank you to all who posted about helping my Dad. I am realizing that there is more to his recovery than initially expected, especially because he is 77! He has 3 leads and a defibulator. Many peole mentioned settings?? I don't recall them saying anything about that at his follow up appt. He just received a machine in the mail. I think I need to really read up on that and understand how it works. I think he thought in 3 weeks he would be back to normal. I don't think so anymore. I am going to re...

Easter is a wonderful day for all. A day created for all men and women of this world. We tend to celebrate it in different ways, but for me, I celebrate it with being the day my Lord has resurrected from the dead. For that day brought a gift to all who live on this earth. A day of hope has been given to us all. May Angel's come to watch over our children as they hunt for eggs. May you find peace at a local church. May your hands be touch by the spirit of the Lord. May your heart continue to bea...

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
