St. Jude 5376 dual chamber pacemaker

Has anyone had difficulty adjusting to this pacemaker? After an extensive unsuccessful ablation for A-Fib, my A/V node was ablated necessitating the implant of this pacemaker, which was heralded to suppress A-Fib. For 9 months I could hardly walk from my car to my classroom ( a very short distance) while carrying a not so heavy bookbag and purse without stopping and leaning on the school building half-way. My doc said I was too anxious about it and it wasn't going to get any better. I went t...

sleeping soundly

What a great resource this site is for those of us just joining the pacemaker ranks. I am a 49 year old with a medtronic dual lead pacemaker. I am one week past implant. I am a quick healer and pretty healthy and am feeling pretty good now except for being sleep deprived. I am a side and belly sleeper and just cannot get comfortable on my back. I've tried to sleep on my right side but feel like the incision is being stretched. I've tried wedge pillows behind my shoulders and knees and Ambien as...

Peddling Angioprim

Hello All,

Did any of you receive an email in your private message box from a peddler selling a product named Angioprim? Or, did I just get lucky? LOL This ticks me off big time. How dare he/she use this PM club as a means to reach people with cardiac disease! That said, sorry if I offended anyone and I hope this isn't someone Blake okayed to advertise! LOL.

Nerve Conduction Test

The hand surgeon for my severe carpal tunnel syndrome is insisting he does this admittedly horribly painful on pacemaker patients with no problem. But Medtronic told both me and the tech who also called that they would prefer I not do it, or if unavoidable, have a pacemaker tech with me! (I'm completely pacemaker-dependent; have had a pacer for 20 years -this is my third; am 76.) I'm also fearful because once during a pacer check, the tech hit the wrong line on the screen and I began to lose...

Pilates Machine

I wanted to know if anyone has a pilates machine. The range of motion when doing pilates ropes, do they hurt the muscles around the pacemaker ? Sometimes when I do light weight training, it is tender around my pacemaker. Also, in general does anyone have tenderness around the pacemaker ? I have had the PM since 2002, and now it is tender ? Who the heck knows ??

Comment for sandy529

This is in response to Sandy 529 "having a hard time running now". I am 68 years young, very athletic, mostly a cyclist. 2 years ago I had an AV block necessitating implant of a medtronic dual chamber pacemaker. Immediately I was unable to achieve my former exertion levels, very frustrating. My cardiologist told me the pacemaker was limited to 150 bpm, and that I would have to live with that. I knew that I had prior been able to achieve much higher rates I was able to train my body to impr...

It seems like tough and lonely work!

Hi everyone, I'm a 45 year old single Dad and I get very little help with bringing up my two sons aged 16 and 13. The boys themselves know that Dad is unwell and they also know that stress makes me sicker and so on the whole they help me more than they hinder. I have three jobs that I work at mostly from home but without these three jobs I can't make ends meet. I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy with the additional complication of permanent left bundle branch block about six years ago -...

Details of Heart and PM

I read so many postings of details of that person's heart and pacemaker and leads and percentages and beats per minute.
I know nothing about this, other than two leads.
Either my cardiologist does not tell me so much or I will learn these things as I have any needed tests done.
I had my PM in on Feb. 14th. Yesterday I was in bed all day from fatigue and short winded. I will be getting a holter monitor on Monday to see if there is something wrong, perhaps that is how I find out...

having a harder time running now...

I've had my pacemaker for 2 years now and I started running again about 2 months after having it installed. Things were ok as far as running was concerned and I actually was able to run further than I had ever been able to do. Recently though, after my last adjustment, I notice that I get really winded after only about a minute of running and I have to stop and walk for awhile. I don't seem to be able to get any significant progress with this.
Any ideas? I was diagnosed with complete heart...

ASKING FOR MONEY

Anyone can join this site as a member. You do not have to provide proof that you are a pacemaker patient. You do not have to provide proof that you have been honest about your age or gender or anything else for that matter. That is why sites like this which do a great deal of good are vulnerable to those who are less than honest and just want to take someone for a ride. You may have noticed that someone is asking for money on this site to pay for a different pacemaker. The person may or may not...

why did you have to get a pace maker

my questions is this. according to the doctors my heart is in athletic shape, physically i am in better shape than 20 years ago.
i am 44 male always athletic. when i ask the cardiologist she thinks the heart problem is a symptom of something else. my heart rate will just drop to nothing all the while it is irregular pattern. i feel it has something to do with my bowel movements (sorry) but i still not sure what the trigger is and why. does anyone else have the reason why they have a pacemak...

PM bulge

Hello all,my PM is now two months old,I am surprised at how prominent it seems. The site is just below the left collarbone and I would think any swelling after implantation is now long gone. I am,I suppose, rather spare in build so maybe there is not much to bury the device in! Has anybody else felt the PM seems to be just below the skin? I think the ladies may have the advantage here as there may be a bit more to tuck the PM into.:-) My neighbour has a PM but hers is nothing like as prominent.Cer...

I just got done reading this and thought I would pass it along. I found it to be very interesting but, then it doesn't take much to amuse me these days.

Recovery & Setting(s) Questions...

Hello everyone,

I am now on day 61 since receiving my pacemaker. My arm is much better and I can move and lift it over my head now. I can finally sleep fairly well at night and have "graduated" from sleeping only on my back. Trying to sleep on my left side is still not very comfy.

I have had some difficulty adjusting to this pacemaker at many levels... but the main thing is how I generally feel. Now that the incision is much better, I am sleeping better, the rest has...

Well one month after my ablation my husband without warning told me he didn't love me and he wanted a divorce. He seems to be having a midlife crisis and unfortunately with someone almost half our age. I was completely devastated. I couldn't believe how little he cared after everything I have been through this year with my heart. I have however come to terms with it over the last few weeks. I have been blessed with a second chance at health, love, life. Everything I was most afraid of has come...

Hello, I've had my pacemaker for 10 months and recently lost over 20 pounds. The strange thing is since I lost the weight the site is tender especially if I do anything that strains my pec muscles. It seems to hurt the most along the wire. Anyone else had tendernous this long after getting one?

With your prayers I'm even more certain that they will "move mountains", this calm day today is exactly the effects of all your prayers! THANKS DEAR FRIENDS.
After a whole week of running about with my husband, finding the best way to deal with how to remove an awkwardly positioned rectal tumour avoiding total excising the rectum and multi tests and scans,I was so stressed out and depressed thinking there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
Despite this mad hatter rushing between ho...
