I had my 2nd surgery

Well, I had my 2nd surgery last Thursday to have my ICD repositioned. It was quite an experience. It took almost 2 hours because they decided to fix one of the leads while they were in there that had been causing diaphragmatic spasms and they had to cut out the old scar that was what they called keloid scaring (swollen and very sore to the touch)??! I was awake for most of the surgery so I was able to tell them when I no longer felt the spasms....and I did feel some pain even though I was pretty...

Boy, the more I read, the more calm and reassured I am and then the more stressed and freaked out I am. I go for my PM next Friday and just when I think all I've read and considered about the whole deal have me feeling pretty ok with it all, I read something that gets me panicked all over again. Mostly recovery, but some concern about having leads removed one day (I'm only 35, so the chance is greater the longer I have them, I'm sure), infection, etc. In alot of ways I'll be glad to just have...

Good Advice

I appreciate all the good advice from everyone. I am just so scared of being excepted. I didnt have to worry about it when I was married because we were already together. But dating someone new is very scary. I never knew there was so many young people having pm until I found this site. I got mine when I was 26. I am now 39 and I am always the youngest person in the waiting room when I go for my check-ups. I am afraid that I am not as attractive with the pm.

Does it make a big difference?

I am looking for some feedback on the before and after issue. I am at a 40 heart rate with some headaches and tiredness, will a PM make that much of a difference? I work full time and will it make more issue for me than I started with?
Any input would be helpful!

Excessive sweating

I noticed some comments regarding excessive sweating. I have had a pacemaker since 1999 with a replacement in 2006. I am also on Toprol and Lisinopril, take thyroid replacement and supplemental potassium. I have experienced facial and scalp sweating for quite some time. It is excessive to the point of actually dripping from both my forehead and my hair. It is most embarassing as it can happen at any time (shopping, social event, etc.) Does anyone out there have a similar problem and what ar...

Age range?

Hi , I just joined tonight after getting word from my dr that Im in need of a PM. Surgery is scheduled within the week. Im nervous to say the least.
My question is, my dr keeps saying Im too young for a PM but he feels it will return my quality of life in general. My normal heart rate is between 29-45. Im often tired and worn out easily doing normal activities around the house.
Im wondering the average age of members here. Im 46.

computers and other hi-tech gadgets are not good?

was just like to asked some queries bout the "FACT" or "MISCONCEPTION" that pacemaker operated person like us are limited in terms of exploration and leisures or fun with the use of modern and hi-technologies like cellphones or computers because it will limit the life span of our battery. If this is a myth then, there is really a need for information dissimination so countries like us will also know how would it be. I mean pacemaker operated will know how would it be., like m...

Allergic Reaction to Metal in PM??

Can a person have an allergic reaction to the metal in the pacemaker? I have a tendency toward rashes if I wear cheap jewelry, where belt buckles rub, etc. Whether it's nickel dermatitis or what, I'm not sure. But it got me wondering if I could have a reaction to the metal in the pacemaker. That sounds terribly uncomfortable...

Two Lives Saved!

I’m happy to report that $1,130 has been donated to Heartbeat International by Club members to date. Thank you!

I’m asking for members’ help to raise $10,000 for Heartbeat International by December 15. This is enough to save the lives of 20 patients who can not afford a cardiac device. The St Jude Medical Foundation will match all donations made by Club members until that day.

If you have not already done so, please visit

I think my pacemaker has moved

It used to be in Georgia with me, he just said, without any warning, that he was leaving and now I think he's living in Texas....my pacemaker that is.
Nah, just kidding. But seriously, I do think that my pacer has decided to shift a bit. I think things have stretched some. It's been 3 months. The last month or so when I moved a certain way it felt like something was stretching inside. I figured it was scar tissue, or something, but it didn't feel very pleasant. I just thought it was all a p...

pacemaker syndrome

I got a pacemaker placed (dual) two months ago and have had nothing but problems since. I feel my pacemaker when it signals either from the upper chamber or lower chamber (AV). It can be felt very low on the left side under my rib cage almost in my upper abdomen as several beats or sometimes in the middle of my chest and will make me cough. It can be positional as well that will set it off. I have seen the technician twice with the company and he made some adjustments once that made it worse and...
