Doctor said I needed a pacemaker

Have just been told that I need a pacemaker by two different cardiologist. However I have not been tested for a thyroid problem. Guess that is next. I am a triathlete and have a resting hr of 35. I do have an irregular heartbeat at times off and on and am beginning to have near syncope episodes. I have had a doppler, echo and stress thallium treadmill test and passed with flying colors. I had an event monitor for 30 days and had one 4 second pause with my heart. I have lots of energy,exerc...

Using an Inclined inverter table witha PM

New Pm Guy here. Waiting on my Doctor's OK to return to full speed and duty in a few weeks. I am 68 and also have a spinal arthritis issue with my facet joints in the L-4 and L-5 area of my spine.

Prior to my PM implant I purchased an incline inversion table to use to stretch my spine and hopefully relieve some of the joint pain I experience daily.

My question for the PM experts here is: Is there any danger to the heart and implant leads by hanging upside down to stretch my...

Walked 3.5 miles today

with 350 feet elevation gain. Not anything extra-athletic, but I am building stamina.

Tomorrow I harvest a bunch of wild plums. See photo at:

Heart Rate and Step Counter

I am looking for recommendations for gizmo that can do a good job of both tasks.

Tried an inexpensive one and the step counter came out eay low. The heart rate didn't measure anything. Is it true that a chest strap measure of heart beat can interfere with my implant unit?

TIA

Another setting question

I know there have been several posts about this topic but I am still a little unsure about which works best rate response on or off. PM since 2/10. Just released last month for exercise. Started on a masters swim program 2 weeks ago. I was having a hard time after warm up and blamed it on being out of shape until today.

I was working out at home today and found that as soon as my heart rate reached 135 my HR went down to 70 and my blood pressure went sky high 180/110. So I then...

My heart is acting up walking upstairs.

I have my pacemaker for 17 days. I can walk alright, ride bicycle, dance, but as soon I walk using stairs, something goes wrong. My heart goes like bum, bum - stop, bum, bum - stop. I feel discomfort all over. Any ideas why?

Newie geezer Jock 68 with new st Jude pacer

Hi! All: I was a triathlete until age 65 then A- fib sidelined me since 2007 to now. Just received a St Jude 2210 Pacer and hope to get back doing Sprint Tri's soon.

Any recommendations for this new old jock with a pacer on how to start a training program?

I have been on the sideline for 3 years! Walk bike and swim casually daily?

It is now 29 July 2010 and I received my pacer implant yesterday.

I am a retired Navy Diver of 33 years among other retired...

Low Heartrate When Cycling

I have a Boston Scientific Guidant unit that was implanted almost 2 years ago. I'm an avid cyclist and just can't seem to get my heartrate high enough. When cycling, my upper body moves very little.

I've been back to the EP's office numerous times to see if anything could be adjusted. One time it was set way too fast and I'd get to maximum heartrate just slowly walking around. Right now it's still a tad fast for walking but too slow for cycling.

Any suggestions???

Heart Rate whilst running

Guys,

I had my P/M inserted in May 2010, I have recently started running again, however the last cuple of long runs that I have done have resulted in me feeling quite unwell.

What I mean by unwell is that I have the same type of feeling that I was having pre P/M, ie light headed , dizzie etc.

The runs have be approx 7.5 to 9.5 miles, also during the last run I had my Garmin heart monitor on, during the run my BPM went from 151 down to 115 BPM at which sta...

caddshack

Hi, I recently started caddying on a regular basis, sometimes singles and sometimes doubles so i have a bag ober my left shoulder. The strap does go partially over my scar and as well as the pacer, i get some irritation but it is less and less. I had my pm put in 11/09, i am 49yrs old in pretty good shape. Physically i can do it i just don't want to damage or mess up the pm/wires etc.

Thanks Bill

Pulled Muscle

I had my CRT-D moved in May and have been doing fine, just trying to get my arm back to normal and the device settled in, however, this morning I raised my left arm and something popped right on the muscle that runs beside the underarm. I wondered if it might have been a lead breaking?? Can anyone tell me if you feel any pain when a lead breaks or could it just be I pulled the muscle up too hard?

Yoga and thai chi

Hi Everyone,
I joint the club this morning. I had a PM 4 weeks ago and I was very happy to come across this wed site, I had a lot of answers from the expreince and knowledge of all the people who had PM for a long time. I used to go to hatha yoga (steching) classes twice a week before my PM, but I am afraid if I go back and streching my arm will make the leads get loose, did any one of you go back to yoga after you had your PM, and when did you go back. Is thai chi better or easier than y...

Swimming

OK! So I've started swimming again, some 6 weeks after my procedure: Freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke. I'm holding off on the butterfly for another 2-3 weeks, after my follow-up visit at the hospital.
Bottom line: I've added at least 1 1/2 minutes on my 1,500 m freestyle, a 6% deterioration. It's quite discouraging. I don't think it has anything to do with my heart rate, my breathing or my stamina. My stroke feels awkward and my left bicep seems to tire more quickly.
I be...

Heartrate in heat and humidity

I subscribe to the Polar Newsletter (I have a Polar heartrate monitor) and thought I'd share what it says about what happens to your heartrate when subjected to hot and humid conditions:

FACTORS THAT AFFECT HEART RATE DURING THE SUMMER

Heat, humidity and hydration can affect your heart rate training. Keep these 3 factors in mind if you’re exercising outdoors this summer:

1) Temperature and humidity will influence your heart rate. As the environment gets warmer...

Chest pain after exercise

Hi Guys,

I was at the gym on Saturday and did a bit of weightlifting and running on the treadmill. My running style was slightly off as I had a sore calf muscle and I tend to end up with my shoulders up really high and tense when I run. Then on Monday I was lifting a few boxes at work and got some pain right in the centre of my chest and around my ribs....it's still a bit sore today (although I did go to the gym again last night, but just walked on the treadmill).

I'm jus...

Team Pacemaker

You know I am a cyclist and love this time of year. The TDF is one of my favorite sporting events and I was just thinking about how the Pacemaker Club functions a lot like a cycling team. Sometimes when someone is struggling with something his teammates will all come back to help pace him back to the group, the stronger members letting those that need help hang on their wheels as they climb, letting them ride in their slipstreams some things are a little easier for them until they are strong eno...

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
