It's been a long time since I posted.
Was in to the Pacemaker Clinic on Wednesday and the printout revealed that my pacemaker had 'stopped' three times (for short periods) last August.
My Cardiologist looked very concerned, I'm 100% PM dependent, and asked 'where were you last August that had a very strong magnetic field?'
Guess he was going to tell me to stay away but the only thing I could think of was that I was at that Hospital having...
Hi, all...I just got a call today from my sister-in-law who works in a nursing home. She stated that they received a letter warning any of their residents with pacemakers not to play a Nintendo WII due to interferences with the pacemaker. Has anyone else heard of this? I know the controllers and such are all wireless, and maybe they have quite a strong frequency? Just wondering, as we have a WII at the Personal Care Home I work at!
Do clip on pedometers with a lithium battery affect the PM? I have a Sportline 350 step counter and wonder if it is safe...If unsafe how do they affect a PM?
So I've had my pacemaker for about 7 months...no problems. I just reviewed closely then ordered a new body fat monitor w/ scale. I open it up when it arrives all excited about my new toy when I see this big fat warning that those with PMs shouldn't use it. Called Medtronic, they agreed. However I've seen comments on here that it's ok...just a cya type precaution. What do you think? Do I have to send it back? Can I just use the weight function and not the body fat part? I had one before t...
Does anyone have any information on the corelation between using ntheraputic ultrasound in our occupation as Physical Therapists for over 30 years, and the need for having a pacemaker implANTED IN MY WIFE AND MYSELF WITHIN ONE YEAR of eachother. We were both physical therapists working together!
Does anyone have any information on the effect of cell tower radio frequencies on pacemakers? liteppie
the advisory posted march 20 1998 on the fda website is a good read . it tell about digital tv transmission and medical telemetry systems. i am sure that medical telemetry systems can withstand more outside digital interference than a mere set of pm leads or for that matter a pm itself.
im trying to find out if anyone has ever heard of digital signals penetrating pacemaker leads and having adverse affects on a heart
Can anyone tell me about the possible interferences between the pacemaker and the diathermy used during surgical operations? Thank you.
I was wondering if anyone knows if "lightening" that usually happens with a thunder storm interferes with pacemakers? My mother is the one with the pacemaker and that came just before her stroke! Her speech is what is impaired the worse so I can't ask her. I would appreiciate any help or info. on this topic...
Hi everyone, just got back from the dentist where I had a wash & brush up with the hygienist who would not use the sonic cleaner because I have a pacemaker. I have read on the Medtronic site that it is OK to use the sonic probe.
I know older models of pacer did not have the level of protection of modern pacers so could be affected by these things.
How many of you out there have been to the dentist lately and what if any was your experience of the sonic cleaning equipment.
I ask the cardio during the checkup about having laser eye surgery. Both he and the Medtronics rep said no problem. Then they got to kidding around about warning some dear old soul not to use an arc welder! They were is a good mood today.
I mentioned some of the things I have been around such as ham radio transmitters, car engines, hand power tools, etc. and the Medtronic rep said it wasn't an issue. They have done a lot to filter out this sort of interference. The only other thing th...
The weird shocking my dad was experiencing suddenly stopped. No changes in activity of any sort, just shock-free. WEIRD
I am interested in what instruments/environments encountered in daily living you have found interfered with your pacemaker...I have had three different episodes of sudden PVC's and unwellness while in the hardware(heaters) /automotive sections (tires). I am thinking maybe there were large magnets close by...Also..I read somewhere that a standard plug in dremel cannot be used anymore...Apparently there is a new rechargeable type..opinions? Thanks...Cathy
Does anyone use an electric toothbrush? I was using one for a while and wondered why my heart always jumped about while brushing my teeth - I then realised it could be the toothbrush interfering with my pacer. I hate using a manual brush but am a bit concerned now, are electric toothbrushes safe to use?
I found out my dads p/maker has three wires rather than two. Anybody got suggestions, email me @ firstname.lastname@example.org thanks donald in louisiana
my dad had a p/maker inserted 2 yrs ago.Friday march 20,2009, he started getting shocked in his nose when his heart beats if he uses remote control for tv, cordless phone,110 volt heating pad, too close to a 110 volt space heater, if my mom uses the remote too close to him, a calculator, etc. On all these things, he gets shocked only when he operates it, not when it's idle. Any suggestions??????? My dad is miserable as you can imagine.. help!!!!!!!!!! donald in louisiana
Hi---I just read a 2006 post that anyone who has a pacer should avoid the Wii----I just had a pc 3-17-09 and planned on playing Wii w/my Grandaughters----Anyone have updated info on this? Thanks mc1
Is it true we're not supposed to go through airport security? It has only been the last couple of years that I have gone around. Could it cause damage to the PM?
I set off the store alarm system when I walked in this nice gift store yesterday. As I was trying to leave it of course went off again. The cashier had me come back in to the front of the store (with everyone watching by this point) as I tried to explain to her that I just got a pacemaker last week. She did not believe me at first and one customer actually said "you look to young to have a pacemaker". Luckily they did believe my 12 year old daughter. I had stood directly in front of the dev...
