Hi All
Does anyone use an electric toothbrush? I was using one for a while and wondered why my heart always jumped about while brushing my teeth - I then realised it could be the toothbrush interfering with my pacer. I hate using a manual brush but am a bit concerned now, are electric toothbrushes safe to use?
thanks

I had the same concern. I didn't use my electric toothbrush for over 6 months after getting my ICD implant. Then I purchased a Waterpik. Since that caused no problem, I decided to give my electric Oral B a try. I didn't have any problems with it either. Of course I haven't held it close to my ICD just to see what might happen.

Hi, I use a sonic care and have had no problems at all. I try not to hold it over my pacemake, I turn my head to the right when I brush keeping a foot away from it though. My doctor didn't list that as a thing to be careful of, I just do it to be on the safe side. I don't hold my cell phone on my left ear either.

I had a pacemaker since 2002 and ever since then my life has been a total blessing.

Hi Chris,
I use an electric toothbrush and have never given a thought to the possibility that I shouldn't. My cardiologist hasn't mentioned that it is unwise so I don't worry about it. My dentist is aware that I have an ICD and there doesn't seem to be any concern from him either. I shall be interested to read any other comments.
Best wishes,
Lesley
