Another specialist...

Just an update to tell you that I did get into see my cardiologist while she was at a local hospital. She actually pulled in the surgeon who did the implant to look at my rash as well. Apparently, he has seen this a couple of other times where a rash develops where the prep solution was used prior to surgery.

So now onto a dermatologist! Hopefully it will be quick. All I want to do is scratch. The rash now covers from my collar bone over the PM site to my armpit.

Thanks to those of you who suggested I see my cardio. At first, I didn't want to bother her...

Prep solution

I'm wondering if they are using a stronger prep solution to fight the hospital infections that have been on the increase.

There is a stuff called Sting Stop available OTC in some drug stores or health food places that seems to work well to ease the itching. I would check with the Dermatologist though about any interaction with cortisone cream or other meds. I use it anytime I get an itchy area. It has less side effects than scratching!

Itching/Rash

by Pookie - 2009-05-02 07:05:29

When I had my pacemaker back in 2004, I was allergic to the steri strips (the tape over the stitches)...what worked for me was Calomine Lotion...the pink stuff.

Just a thought.

sounds like a reaction to the cleansers they may have used on you. I get something like this is anyone puts any kind of band-aid on me, tape or any latex product. It does go away, but mine does take some time. Good luck, don't scratch if you can help it. Please let us know how you are doing.

Rash

by jessame - 2009-05-02 12:05:39

I broke out in the same rash with in a week of coming home. It was horrible. If I remember corectly in went away on it's own after about 3-4 weeks and alot of cortizone cream. My EP's nurse also said it was probably a reation to the prep solution. Hope yours clears up soon.

Calomine

Calomine is good also. It coats the irritated area and keeps clothing from rubbing on it.

itchy & scratchy...

by muirghe - 2009-05-04 02:05:45

Hello All,

It has been a weekend of benadryl and aloe. The rash still looks ugly but I can keep the itch to a dull roar. I have this week off from work (vacation days), so I won't gross out anyone there. I am waiting to hear about the dermatologist appt from my GP today. I will try the calomine lotion and see if that helps.

Thanks everyone!
