???

I keep having fainting spells and periods of confusion and i cant figure why this would happen if i have my pacemaker. At first it was happening when i was standing and now it is happening when i am sitting as well. I went to the hspital on sat for this and the checked my pacemaker and did a chest exay and said everything was fine. Any thoughts?

A pm just keeps your heart beating at the right speed. It can't make it beat efficiently, it can't keep your blood pressure up high enough to prevent fainting, it can't control your brain. Yes, it can affect all these things, but it can't fix them alone. Many, many things can cause confusion and fainting.

Sometimes you have to be persistant and make noise. Too often busy docs think if you are a walkie talkie you don't have a major problem.

.

TraceyE is correct a pacemaker can only keep your heart beating at the correct rate.

Many problems can cause syncope including arrhythmias like a junctional rhythm.

As I’ve posted in the past I have troubles with a junctional rhythm and it can indeed cause low blood pressure and thus fainting in spite of my pacemaker.

Stay on top of your doctors – get second and third opinions. It has been my experience that many EP’s and cardiologists don’t pursue patients’ complaints aggressively enough.

YOU HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING UNTIL YOU GET AN ANSWER! DON'T GIVE UP & ACCEPT SECOND BEST!

Stay focused - Don’t accept less then a correct diagnosis and a treatment plan to make you well!

God Bless

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
