DRIVING THROUGH "HOOVER DAM"

My lovely wife and I take once a year vacation to Las Vegas, NV.
My wife just got a pacemaker and we were wondering if driving through HOOVER DAM would cause any interference once it is a power generating plant. Has anyone driven through it? Thanks for the repplies!

You will be a long way from the generators - that is the only place where you will experience any significant magnetic fields. Magnetic fields drop off with the distance squared (i.e. much lower with any distance).

I have been to Hoover Dam a couple of times but none since I got my PM. However, I would go again in a minute as I'm sure the electromagnetic field created by the generators at Hoover will not interfere with my PM Those generators are encased in a massive steel shell and very little EMF escapes to the outside.

Like I said, I've not been to Hoover with my PM, but I have been in power plants since I got my PM 8+ years ago. In fact I was in a pwr. plt. a couple of years ago that generates more megawatts than does Hoover. I was within about 10' of one 750 MW generator and I never noticed any effect on my PM. To tell you the truth, I never even thought about having a PM. But then I seldom think about my PM and it certainly never inhibits my activities.

With all that said, I will add that I think your wife will be completely safe crossing Hoover dam and if it does interfere with her PM the effects will go away as soon as you leave the area of the EMF. And there will have been no harm to her PM. In the event any EMF, the one at Hoover or the one from the magnet used during checkups, affects her PM all that happens is a switch opens, or closes (I never know which) and the PM reverts to the magnet mode. This is the same thing that happens when the magnet is placed over the PM during a checkup. So she may notice a difference in her heart beat, as she does during a checkup, but, again when she leave the EMF the pacemaker returns to normal operation.

We advise people with pacemakers that we do not recommend the Power Plant tour, nor the Dam tour. This is due to the potential for electromagnetic interference (EMI) in these environments.
