How Long till back at work

Another concern is .... in this economy.... and not having paid sick days...... How long after surgery before returning to work?

I work at a call center so it' not hard work.

*** Thank you so much for taking time out for me. I really have nobody else to talk to about this. My family is taking this pretty easy.... Not knowing how I really feel physically. I've hid it from them... the best I can.

When i had my pm put in it was done on a Thursday, I stayed overnight and then took the following week off.I prob. couldn't gone back mid-week but since I had a doctor's note I stayed home. I work with special needs kids but was lucky that year I didn't work with someone that needed lifting.(unlike this year) If so I would have neede more time off or switch with someone. I hadn't expected to get one when I did (but it wasn't an emergency surgery, I always knew I would need one eventually) but I only had a few sick days left and I had plans for 2 of them so I ended up with unpaid time off. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to drive for 2 weeks (that's different for everyone) I need rides to/from work.

As Frank & Ann say above a lot depends on how it goes. My take is that your appointment with the Cardiologist will be to discuss options & get some answers. Or at least it should be unless its an emergency & then I doubt that you'd be asked to show up a few days later. Frank & Ann give a lot of good advice. As to return to work, when I got my 1st PM I worked in a similiar job as yours, maybe not as stressful as a call center but similiar. I went in & had an AV node ablation for Afib (see area for abbreviations on upper right corner if I confuse you) & insertion of a PM.It was done with a local & twighlt sleep (no pain & amnesia for the event) & I stayed overnight. Went home on Thursday & took Friday & weekend off & back to work Monday. I was very tired but no pain that Tylenol didn't help. So hope this helps you. Welcome & please keep asking questions as someone here will be able to help. Let us know how it goes.

Hi Brends,

Had my last pm implanted in 2004. Went in on a Wednesday, had the new pm placed in the morning, had the old one (28 years I had that one...) removed in the afternoon - it (the old one) was on the right side, the new one they placed on the left. Was back to work the following Monday, so I didn't even miss a week. You should be fine, just take it easy with the reaching, lifting and what have you. If you sit at a computer you should be fine.

Good luck with everything!

I suppose it depends on the work you do - I had 6 weeks off in the end but I'm a PE teacher so I am always moving & active. Don't go back tp early though

More imprtantly you need to speak to your family - they may seem like theyre free & easy with it but I bet theyre having the same confusions & worries as you are! Iknow my boyfriend seemed like he wasnt bothered but he did that so I wouldnt feel even more worried. He found it easier if honest. You really need your family so use them!!

I used to keep a pile of post it notes next to me & anything i didnt know or understand I wrote down to take to see the doctor - it was really helpful!

Good luck x x
