NHS Secrecy?

Hi

Ask them for a copy each time you go. I do and keep them in a book in case I need a record for when I travel. Stand your ground you are entitled to it. We rarely meet any resistance here in Australia. The last tech that treated me like a mushroom got short shift from me and I returned to the hospital that implanted my pacemaker. It turned out that the tech fully understood why I did not like the "local" tech. I wish you all the best. I did have nerve conductivity tests done in England years ago and asked for a copy. We have a right to know what is going on with our bodies.

Cheers

Demand!!

I agree with Charlie. My PM was placed in March of 2005. Since then, I have been given a print-out with all the data from each visit. I have never had to ask for the print-out. I carry that print-out with me - in my wallet. You never know, especially when traveling, when that info will be helpful/useful.

It seems to me that your cardiologist would understand the importance of the print-out.

I hope you are given all important information.

Peace,
Richan

definitely ask

by Tracey_E - 2009-03-16 05:03:42

You can absolutely ask! If they are reluctant, ask anyway. Sometimes they just need to know you truly want to know, then they get more chatty and start to tell you more. Never ever feel bad about asking them to explain so that you can understand it, or getting a copy of your report.

Every time

Hi,
I was told I should carry them with me. Every time I get a check they give me the newist copy.
That way if something happens...o it has everything on it and you can just take it out and hand it to who ever is taking care of him.

Don't ask, demand!!

As a member of this club you are required by law to demand a copy of any report.

Just kidding about that 'required by law' part but just barely kidding.

You are the customer and you [or your insurance] company have sent a lot of money in their shop and you should get any information that will make you feel more comfortable about sparky and his care and feeding.

Start by asking and demand if necessary. It has been 9 months since install and have had to let one cardio go and added an EP to my team.

From experience and this site, some docs and tech are slow to open up as in any new relationship, and keep working it.

Write questions down before you go the the doc or for a PM check. It always seems to get busy during the visit and I know that I forget to ask the Qs if I don't have them written down.

You are the customer and the customer is always right!

Later,
Charlie

Getting a report

by ElectricFrank - 2009-03-16 11:03:55

I can't remember anyone on this sire mentioning being refused a copy of the report if they ask for it.

Be sure to specify you want both the pre and post programming report. The first contains the data that the pacemaker has gathered since the last visit, with things like the number of "events" that have happened, and at least in my case the range of my HR. The second report shows the settings in place at the end of the visit, and usually notes which ones were changed.

In California, the patient has the legal right to copies of any medical tests and in a timely manner. I not only get copies of my pacemaker checkups, including being mailed a copy of telephone checks, but also get copies of blood tests, ECG's, CT-Scans, ER reports, etc. I also ask my doctor for copies of his office notes.

They have been very handy at times.

Hi there, i wonder if its because we are i the UK, it seems to be easier to get details of your medical records in the US from what can gather. I asked if I could have a print out from my first check and the answer was no!!!! No reason given, just no!!!!

test reports

Not only should you askdemand a copy of the interrogation but you should ask the peerson doing the test if there are any indications of a possible problem. If a problem is indicated ask them if they will explain them to you. If you cannot get this information you shoud look for a ne site to have your device checked. Best of luck to everyone.
