I had one, too

That is interesting. I just had one of these last night, too. Sounds a lot like what you are describing. It was very quick, then gone. The location was hard to pin-point, but was somewhere close to the PM on my left side. That was the only occurence I've experienced since I had the PM implanted four weeks ago, and hasn't repeated. Maybe a nerve?

Been there and done that and I know for a fact it ain't fun, so you can believe Hubby when he says it is happening. Not that I think you would doubt him.

The cause can be from a very long list of things. Regardless of which item on the list the basic problem is most likely an errant electrical impulse from the pacemaker. There is one other possibility and that is a never was damaged when the pacemaker was implanted and it is now trying to come back to life. If he is lucky that is what it is because that nerve will in all probability correct itself and the phantom shocks will go away.

Some of the other possibilities are the power settings need adjusting. Since you say it happened close to the PM site, there is also the possibility of a fault in the insulation on one of the leads that is letting the electrical impulse from the PM go where it shouldn't and is causing the shock.

Now a brief bit on my similar problem. Mine started 3 weeks after my after my first PM checkup. Changes were made in the settings and, but no one will ever admit there is even a possibility of that being the cause. My problem was further down my chest; actually it was midway of my chest on the right side. It felt just like an electrical shock, except that it did not cause muscle contraction like a shock from high voltage will cause. But there was hardly any difference in the intensity of the pain. In my case it was the PM impulse stimulating a nerve and my cure was to have the nerve deadened. Of course it took five years to finally get this accomplished, but a deadened nerve solved my problem. I should mention I got desperate and had the thing turned as low as possible so it could not send an impulse for two of those years. Whether or not nerve deadening is even a consideration for Hubby or not is something he will have to get from the doctor.

Now the good part. Of course Hubby will need to see the doctor if the pain continues. I hope I'm wrong for his sake, but don't be surprised if the PM is checked out, pronounced in good shape and then Hubby is told it "is not the PM causing the problem." This is apparently the first line of defense for doctors, nurses or whoever, as they have no idea on the cause of the complaint. My reply to that can't be quoted in Sunday school, but you find lots of it in cow pastures.

If he never had this problem before he got the pacemaker and he has it for only 7 weeks I think the odds are about 99.999 chances out of a hundred that it is caused by the pacemaker.

Now before I pain to bleak a picture, I'll stop. But the problem can't be corrected, if it is caused by the PM. However, it may take perseverance and many calls to the doctor. Just don't let them convince Hubby that it is not the PM if he is sure that is the cause and from what you describe my money is on it being the culprit.

I wish him the best,

The spell checker really butchered nthatlast paragraph, (I never make mistakes) This is the correct version.
