I'm getting a pacemaker later this month and wondering, should I get a medical bracelet?

they say we should, but I never have ;o) I keep my cardiologist's business card along with my pacemaker id card in my wallet. In an emergency situation, the first thing a paramedic will do is get a hr monitor on you, and pm spikes are glaringly obvious so I figure they'll figure it out soon enough. (can you tell yet that I'm not a worrier?)

Hi AC

I had a pacemaker put in back in May. I bought a braclet from MedicAlert to wear. I think it is a good idea to wear one. You never know...if an ambulance is called for you the 1st thing they are taught is to check for bracelets. They are not going to look through your pocketbook right off.
The one I bought was only $10.00 I feel it is worth it have a piece of mind.

Hello!
There are several posts on this topic if you do a search in the upper right hand of the page.
Everyone I have talked to highly recommends a medic alert tag of some kind PLUS the cards in your wallet. This would include folks in the PM club, my EP, nurses and a device rep that I know.
I wear either a bracelet or necklace all the time with my ICD info on it. I think medical professionals would have better and faster access to it that way.
Mine says my name, then "heart patient" (I figure if they know I am a heart patient then they have an idea that I am on several meds), then ICD SJM-V168 (The type of device, maker and model number- they may see the incision and lump but not know what is under there), then I listed my Penicillin allergy.
I purchased mine for less than $20 from American Medical ID and they were shipped quite quickly.
Cheers-

Medical Alert ID

Hello! I wear some type of medical jewely at all times. I am only 24, and my doctor said that no one would ever expect me to have a pacemaker.
I was in a car accident a few months ago and was unconscious when they found me. Had I not had on my necklace, they would not have known because they never even bothered to look in my wallet.
They make so many different styles now...you are sure to find one that suits you should you decide to get one.

Hello AC - I will be getting my PM this Thursday and wondered about the bracelet. I believe it is a good idea to wear one. Don't really want to wear my heart problems on my sleeve, but in an emergency, I want medical professionals to get it right. Good luck with your PM -

definitely

I think you should definitely wear one. Mine simply says pacemaker. The medics can call to get info and you can change any information with the company. Its a good idea, since MRIs can be dangerous to pacemakers.

Medical Alert Braclet

I wear a med bracelet & mine is just a plain one. Nothing fancy, I thought about getting a really nice one but...thought better of it because I didn't want anyone to think it was just a piece of jewelry. My fear was that if something was to happen to me...they would mistaken it for a "Good Taste" in Jewelry...lol. I also wear one because I have Sleep Apnea. I am told that if I were to need surgery..I need to let them know that because they use different doses of meds to put you to sleep.

I hope all of the comments have helped you in some way.

Hi AC

Yes I would recommend getting a MedicAlert Bracelet.

I wear mine all the time. It is a good idea in case of an emergency and you are by yourself and something happens. The EMT's can see that you have a pacemaker and can call medicalert to get your personal info of who to contact for next of kin as well as your doctors.

Definitely worth the money. They have so many different colors and styles. I have like 3 -4 different ones. I have one with crystals that I can wear for more of a dressy outfit. Then just the regular one for work.
