Had my pacemaker checked today, this is my second one, the first lasted only 5 years, This one has been in since April 2004,I was told my pacemaker is working 60% and my heart is working 40%, then I was told I had 2 years left in this pacemaker, don't know whether to be pleased or not, but I'm still here, so I am grateful.

PM Life

My first Medtronic was implanted end of 2004 and lasted 5 years. Mine is active 100%. The pacing voltage required has the greatest effect on battery life. I was headed toward 7 yrs when I had a change in my hearts voltage requirement. After it was turned up the estimated life was down to about 5 yrs.

@ 100% worked that long. I am glad it has worked great since 5/03 & get switched out in 2 wks. My 1st one lasted little over 2 yrs. Oh well, as long as it keeps us going :-).

You know you're wired when...
Youre officially battery-operated.

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
It varies

The PM time varies so much!! I had my Medtronic PM since August 2004 and my last check-up said it is good for five more years. The PM is working 100%, so I am surprised it is lasting this long. But, like you say, we're still standing, so I am grateful.
