My first bike ride

I was cleared to ride my bike today at my checkup (on road only). So I raced home got my gear on and WOW what an incredible difference.

Before the PM it was difficult to get my heart rate above 100 and nearly impossible to get to 130.

Now on my first bike ride with my new PM I was able to break 100 bpm easy, found a nice cruising speed at 120 bpm and 132bpm. It even got up to 160 climbing a hill, which I haven't seen all year long riding 90 -120 miles a week.

Still had energy left over to type this message after getting my usual 28 miles in. I haven't felt this good in a long time.

technology is my friend,

Ira

That's the way it is supposed to be. You remind me that I need to fix two flats on my bike.

Great news that you can return to the activity you love. I have been a avid cyclist but over the last couple of years have had difficulty with endurance and raising my heart rate. I was recently diagnosed with pure autonomic failure (PAF) and have been debating whether to get a pacer put in or not. In prior discussions with the cardiologist he discussed a pacer that is activated by respiration rates. Does anyone have experience with this type of pacer? I am not sure who the manufacturer is.

I ride a recumbent trike to work. I gave up regular bikes as I was sick of the sore butt and numb hands. The trike is the best thing ever. Never have to put my feet down! I've had my PM for 7 years, and I'm going for my first replacement tomorrow. I hope to start up riding again by January.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
