What does this mean?

I got 2 of my old pacer check reports and would like to know if anyone knows what it means. My pacer is in the ERI mode right now and I need to know if I am indeed need the replacement based on the percentage of how much I am pacing.


On the 2003 report:

Mode: DDDR

Minimum rate: 60 BPM
Maximum rate: 140 BPM
P-Wave Amplitude: 2.0-2.8 mV Impedence: 580
Atrial Pacing Threshold: 1.5 V @ 0.06 ms

On the 2005:

Mode: DDDR
Mode Switch: On 136bpm Total time: < 1 %
Minimum rate: 60 BPM
Maximum rate: 140 BPM
P-Wave Amplitude: 1.0 -1.4 mV Impedence: 410
Atrial Pacing Threshold: 0.5 V@ 0.40 ms
R-Wave Amplitude: 8.0 – 11.2 mV Impedence: 420
Ventricular Pacing Threshold: 1.0 V@ 0.40 ms

I don't know what all of the numbers mean but Frank and some of the others should. The one that jumps out at me is....
Percent paced: A: 59% V: 69%
That means you're using the atria 59% of the time and the ventricle 69%. That is not insignificant and if I had those numbers I would not let my pm get to ERI, I would have a new one before that could happen!

Min rate means it won't let your hr go under 60
Max rate means if your atria gets over 140, the pm will only make the ventricle go up to 140. Your ventricle may go higher on its own, it won't prevent that, it just means you won't pace higher than 140

I just looked up the ERI mode for my Medtronics Kappa 701 and it states the pacer should be replaced within 3 months.

With the numbers in your report I would expect the battery life to be reaching the time for a change. You didn't say when the pacer was implanted, but based on the 2003 report it has been in use for at least 5 years which is a pretty good life.
I agree with TraceyE that it is time for a change particularly if it has gone into the fail safe mode. While this should give you a max of 6 months left, it is like trusting the gas gauge on your car for the last gallon. Also, in the fail safe mode you aren't getting all the pacing support that your earlier report indicates.
I would start the process of having it replaced now.
