I had my consultation after months of not getting answers.
The original surgeon did in fact state that the pacemaker was moving and that there were leads felt through the skin.
He stated he would move the pacemaker/and or replace with a smaller one, rebuild the pocket and place the leads under the pacemaker.
He, of course, gave me the negatives to the procedure.
As I had the replacement done in Feb. 2008, I would be doing this all over again and then some. He did say that the current situation would not affect the functionality of the current pacemaker. However, when I asked further questions about skin erosion from visible leads, more movement and more pain, he stated that would be something that would be monitored.
As I see it, I have this weekend to make up my mind whether to have the surgery again (more involved than the replacement battery of Feb. 2008) or live with what I have now...discomfort, psychological troubles, etc. No one wants surgery, yet, I think I might be better off if it were fixed the way it was supposed to be. Of course his last words were that he could not guarentee it would be perfect! Decision,, decisions, decisions. Anyone ever face this one? Please let me know. Thank you.

Positioning of PM

Two years ago I went and had my 4th battery change and had a lead replacement at the same time. All went well until about 5 days after the procedure and I noticed a lead ontop of my PM...I swear it looked like it was going to burst out of my skin. I went to my GP who called the internist who arranged to have it looked at...it was decided that I have it repostioned...so 3 weeks later there I was having it repostioned both the 3rd lead and the PM....I am so glad I did it not only looks better but it feels better as well. Seeing as it is us who have to live with our PM's and not the surgeons we should be able to have some say as to how it feels and looks.
I hope you get some resolve to your situation....
please keep us posted....good health to you!

hi i can understand your worries i am to have repositoning of pm on 14th aug as my five year old pm is very loose and moveable. it has taken a lot of time and stress in finding a consultatant who understands and i too was given all the pros and cons but at last someone has told me that my pm does need sorting and he has assured me that he would do it himself. i am scared and worried about having surgery and how i will be afterwards but keep positive that i can only feel better. i hope you make the right decision for you.
