message for the newbies

For those of you who are new, feeling down and wondering if you'll get active again, here's my brag. I mean, my story.

I started walking a week after my last surgery (last Jan), moved up to weights and the elliptical as soon as I was cleared by my doc, then took the leap and posted last month that I was trying a Crossfit boot camp. I FINISHED!!!!!!!!! Very challenging military style workouts 5 days a week for 5 weeks. I lost 7 lbs, 4 1/2 inches, I can run 400m without stopping (was maybe 50m before lol) and do a proper push up now. I've jumped hurdles, run through an obstacle course while carrying weights, climbed ropes, done about a gazillion squats (some with barbells!), learned the difference between a jerk and a push press and decided I will always hate freaking burpees (but I can do them!). I love it enough that I joined and am still going 5 days a week.

Don't lose faith, and don't be afraid to try something you think you can't do!

Thanks Tracey... 2 years ago next month I thought my life had ended when I was told I needed a pacemaker.

I was in denial, depressed and wallowing in self pity as I lay in the hospital bed being told that I needed a pacemaker ASAP since my heart kept taking naps and the naps appeared to be getting longer. But after surgery I remembered that I have never quit on anything in my life.

Well over a thousand miles on the bike (with about 6 months off due to a little incident with an SUV), some mountain peaks in Colorado and New Hampshire and I can tell you that what I was feeling in the hospital that day was for far from the truth. My bike club website signature even includes the little note, powered by BoSci (for my Boston Scientific Pacer). I couldn't have made it though without folks like Cabg, Tracey, Electric Frank and so many others who post here on a regular basis. Training again for the Colorado Triple Bypass and if I can keep out of the way of errant SUV's this year I am going to get it done.

My pace maker is 4 weeks old...69 years old...and apparently I had been sick for several years, slowly losing my energy, due to a fatigue, no one figured out, finally they found that my heart was slowing down..

I am slowly working toward building my life back, walking and gardening...looking forward to my serious walks...but that will be aways for me yet...find the extreme heat is not working for me, so fall and cooler weather are going to be very welcome.

Thank you for sharing.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
