Hi, fellow pacers:
I just want to tell last monday I had my second pacemaker implanted. Everything OK but the doctor that did it, set the pacing limit to 60-110, while the doctor that did the first one and had done all the checkings during 5 and a half years, had set it at 70-110.
I asked why he had lowered this limit, but seemed that it was a personal choice, and said there was no reason why my heart should beat at 70 even while I was resting, and I wouldn't notice the change.
What's your opinion ?
Bye

Limit settings

60 should be just fine. I have mine set to 55.
Do you have some kind of heart condition that requires your upper limit to be set so low? Most pacemaker come from the factory set to 120, and then are increased some more at the first checkup. Looking at your Profile you are the same age I am (80). I have my upper limit set to 150. I don't push it up there, but I don't want the pacermaker limiting me.
Maybe you aren't very active, but if you are the 110 UL would produce some uncomfortable symptoms if you even walk briskly. At the limit the pacer starts skipping beats and can make you feel out of breath.

Same thing here on lower setting

For what it's worth, my EP did the same with my lower setting, when I had my 2nd PM implanted. His point was that it was perfectly safe for me, and allowing it to go down to 60 would make it easier for me to get to relax and sleep. It's been 18 months since then, and no issues at all.

Hi, i am a 50 yr old male active, mine(st jude double, is set at 70bpm, installed a year ago, another dr turned it down to 60bpm, i didn't feel well so he turned it ti 70 again. If you have no problem sleeping keep it at 70, it's been good for 5 yrs.

hi, my p/m is also set at 60 and as the battery is getting low I am finding it very difficult to walk my 2 miles every day, I get short of breath and lot pain in the lower chest, and very hard to walk even a little sick to the stomach...I have told the p/m remote clinician about it and the electrophysiologist is suppose to call me but so far he has not..would like the low end turned up to at least 70 ...so I know what you went thru...
You know you're wired when...

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
LR of 70 to 60.

Dear Vicens,
If you're feeling OK with it, there is no problem in changing the so called Lower Rate to 60. Some pacemakers have possibilities to program the LR to 70, but at night 60bpm or LR 70 and rest-rate 60bpm. The benefit from this is that the pacemaker will last a little longer.
Anyway, if you're OK with it, no dizziness, there is no problem with that.
I don't know whether you got a 'single or double room pacemaker'. Double rooms are usualy set to 60 (sometimes nightrate 50) and single rooms to 70 (sometimes nightrate 60), unless there are reasons not to do so.
Good luck with your new pacer!
