Sensitivity

Just a quick question: I have had my PM for 4 months and I can still feel the "sensation" of having my heart rate increased for me. When this happens I tend to get a little nervous about things.

Does the anxiety thing stop and will I come to the place where I do not realize the PM is even actively working?

Thanks: tripastor

I can feel Mine

Tripastor,

I just wanted to let you know that I have had my pacemaker for 5 months now and I can still fell mine kick in on occasion. I talked to my doctor about it and he told me that some people are just more sensitive and tend to feel it more. I use to get really anxious and nervous when id feel mine kick in. But Id just remind my self that it was helping me stay alive and keeping me from passing out. So dont worry about it to much. Just let the little Butterflies fly around ( I think it feels like I have butterflies in my chest).

Anxiety

The problem with anxiety is that it can cause some of the symptoms that result in anxiety.. and around it goes.
The important thing to realize is that we are very sensitive to unfamiliar changes in our heart beat. Especially if your pacer has rate response turned on it will increase you heart rate in ways that seem strange. While it can be uncomfortable it is not life threatening. As CathrynB suggested, talk to your doc about your settings and particular rate response. Unless you have a confirmed condition with a requirement it is best turned off.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
