help

I am new to having pacemaker/dibulator. I had mine done May 2006 no problems until Sat. 2008 I started getting zapped. Went to the ER showed that it never went off, labs came back ok. No one seems to have an answer why I keep getting zapped. Any help? Going to the Heart Dr. on Weds. May 21.

New to ICD

Hello,
I've had my ICD/PM for some years and hope my comment might help you. Soon after implant I started having quite violent jumping/jerking spasms. The only way I can describe it is to say it was rather like when you are asleep and your whole body jumps violently which I believe is caused by nerves. Sometimes it was so strong that I thought I'd had a shock and on one occasion I too went to get it checked out only to be told that nothing had happened . I mentioned this when I went to an ICD group held at my hospital and was delighted to hear that another patient was having a similar experience. The doctors said thay had never heard of this before. Now, some years on all the jumping has stopped and I have experienced several shocks so I know that my earlier experiences must have been the ICD settling down or a nervous reaction. It is very strange that after yours was interrogated there was no evidence that it had shocked you.
You don't say whether you have ever experienced a shock which has been recorded? What does it feel like when you are shocked? If you are sure that you are being shocked and there is nothing wrong with your ICD then it does seem very strange. For me, it wasn't until I had a proper shock that I really knew I'd had one. I'd love to hear how you get on - I am really very interested.

Good luck to you & look forward to hearing from you.
