Medic Alert Bracelets
I'm new here and just had my PM installed at the end of Feb. of this year.
I was told to get a medical alert bracelet. Also was told not to buy the over the counter ones because they don't last and after about a week they begin to look terrible. I don't know if that is true since I haven't purchased one yet.
My question is does everyone here wear a medical alert bracelet. Where can I get a decent or good one and a good price???

I decided to get my son a Medic Alert bracelet. The major reason that I got one for him was that if I was unable to speak for him I wanted the medical people to know that he has a Medtronics pacemaker. They need to know which brand you have in order to interogate it. I didn't want people guessing. Also, he is on several heart medications and that should also be taken into consideration for care. It gives me the piece of mind. Maybe nothing will ever happen that the bracelet would even be used, but there is always a chance. So, I will keep Medic Alert updated and keep that piece of mind. It's $25 for a year, totally worth it!

I wear one just so that people are aware that I have my pacemaker in case of an emergency. My dr told me i didnt have to wear one but reccomended that i do. You can order them from your local jewler or you can try Lauren Shop. They have some amazing braclets.

Hi Arimed,
I got mine from Wal Mart...it cost like $25.00 I think. he had enough room to put what I needed on it.I thought about going to one of the sites and ordering a really nice beaded one but, I figured it would look to much like a regular bracelet and I didn't want that. I wan Peri medics to know when looking at my wrist that it is a med bracelet and not just a fashion one. Just my own way of thinking.

Geez, I thought I already responded to this post yesterday... but apparently it didn't go through! Hummm...
I have a Medic Alert bracelet. It isn't just the bracelet but the service they provide. Ela-girl gave good information. They do have a yearly charge, but it is reasonable for the service. I think it gives you a great deal more protection than just a bracelet where you imput your own information!
Google MedicAlert.org and you should fine the site. There are several others that use similar names. The MedicAlert site has a lot of information so you don't have to sign up or buy anything until you are ready. They also have phone number contacts, I believe and you could talk to a real person. I have emailed them directly about questions I had and they were great and answered back within 24 hours!
Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I went to the jewelers and they want $404 for a bracelet but she said she would have to call in for a current price as the 404 was for gold that was selling at 300 an ounce. I then asked want gold was selling for now; her answer was oh, it's 800 an ounce !!!!!!!!!!
Well, after searching around different sites I found Snappyjewelry.com.
I ended paying 38 dollars for a nice one that they are going to engrave for me.
Will let you know when I get it; how I like it.
I think every PM should automatically come with an ID bracelet.

Medic Bracelets

Hi, arimed.
We recently had a poll on the site about how many of us wear medic alert bracelets. It was close to 50/50 with the non-bracelet wearers tipping the scales just a bit. When I first got my pm, my mom bought me a nice silver medic bracelet...it was nice for awhile but I couldn't really put all the necessary info on it. So, last year I decided to go with Medic Alert for a number of reasons. I LOVE my bracelet and I get compliments often because it doesn't look like a medic bracelet. It also gives me piece of mind that ALL my pertinent medical info is engraved on the bracelet and that in case of an emergency, medics/doctors can get all my info by calling Medic Alert. And Medic Alert will also notify the doctors I have on file with them as well as family membesr I've chosen to have on file. They have many styles of bracelets.
I know KarenA on the site recommends Lauren's Shoppe on the net...you could check that out, too.
Happy shopping...
