Side effects...

Hi again :)

How is it going on the drug? Do you have side effects from it? My EP just prescribed flecainide for me, and I am quite nervous from what he told me and everything I have read. I am 27, and it seems like a bit of a scary drug to me.

Just looking for any "real" feedback that people may have!

Thanks,
Kristen

Hi Kristen,

I've been on flecainide for the last four years. I was originally diagnosed with Long QT which is a life threatening rhythm causing ventricular fibrillation which if not shocked immediately can cause sudden death. For this I take Bisoprolol. It was then discovered that I also have atrial fibrillation which is not a life threatening condition and this is what the Flecainide is prescribed for. I have mentioned both meds because I am not sure which might be responsible for the dizzyness and general lethargy I feel constantly. I also feel very woosy in the head a lot of the time. So this could be a result of both meds but I'm not sure. My consultant assures me that flecainide is a 'very nice little pill' so I take it because I believe he has my best interest at heart.

Take care,

Lesley

Yes, I've been on Flecainide for 2 1/2 years for A Fib. No side effects at all.
Also, if you click on the word "search" in the top right corner of this page and then type in "flecainide" you can pull up other posts about this medicine. Many of our members take it, I think.

Hope this helps.

I was on it for SVT, but it didn't work for long.

I'm only on Bisoprolol, to reduce risk of shocks from my ICD. I was on 5mg and felt wiped out by it, just as you say. I reduced it to 2.5mg (after getting my EP's agreement) and I feel much more energetic. Also I got a pill splitter and I've halved my prescription costs!
