biking

What type of protective vests do you recommend for a leisurely bicycle rider? I have been known to go over the handle bars on an off trail mountain bike ride in the past but don't plan to do this again. Where can the vests be purchased?

Does anyone else get short of breath when they first start hiking? It takes about 45 minutes before I feel as if I can keep up. I don't take any heart meds.

My second pm was implanted Feb 1, 2007 after a fractured wire in my first pace maker was replaced and the old pm would not work properly. I also hike with about the same weight and am worried about bike riding and falling on the pm because I am totally dependent on it.
Not sure what my heart problem is per my md but may have been caused by chemo/radiation for breast cancer or inherited from my Mom who needed a pm for unidentified reasons about the same age I was when I got my first pm.

Hiking

Hi, Mary.

I am an avid day hiker and carry a 10-12 pound pack while I'm out. It took me a bit to get back into my activities, but now I feel great when I go hiking! You don't say how long you've had your pm? I've had mine a yaer and a half. If you're just getting back into activities after pm surgery, give yourself some time to get back into the game and don't give yourself a hard time if you're not up to par the first few hikes or if it takes you an hour to get into it. Of course with that said, I don't know your medical history. If your problems persist, you may want to call the doc.

Happy hiking!

You might want to look at a 661 pressure suit. That is the brand name. You can find them if you Google them and one of the cheaper places is www.greenfishsports.com
You will find all kinds of protective gear including vests, helmets, arm pads and leg and hip protection. Basically, whatever you need. They are also great for motorcycle riders. Rick

Rugged PM

I tripped and fell while hiking in the desert a few months back. I had my large camera around my neck and landed with it between my pacer and the ground. The pacer never skipped a beat. It may have been the way I landed. My biggest concern was that I could have damaged the lead connections as they are the weakest link.
