Boston Scientific (who purchased Cadance) is in the process of testing their new devices to 5 atmospheres (ATA). Since the testing and study are currently under way - if we can all make calls and encourage the testing to "7 atmospheres" (ATA) we will accomplish several things. See bottom of post for phone number contact. This is our chance to make a positive change as the costs are mostly just additions to the current study. Once they stop testing, it would be quite costly to undertake a new study.

It will...

Remove the stigma of "rereactional diving" - this term is outdated with current eq, scientific knowledge, training, and computers. WIth prooper training divers (doing it for "recreation") are diving much deeper than 5 ATA. Granted welding, saturation, and extreme depth diving is in the commercial relm. But divers routinely dive to over 200 feet on tri-mix now. Even if your interested to only dive to 120 feet, that may change in the future. And so many will be helped by having devices that are not so limiting. And in the end a device that is highly reliable.

A single agency alone is training over a million new divers a year and that population is getting older. When combined with all other agencies, that is a "lot" of new divers every year.

Open up the underwater world to so many more people without imposed limits.

Educate the manuf. about the changes to the diving world.

Keep in mind that many people now, and in the future, will make use of an ICD at all ages as the technology is widely available, and many will be capable of of this kind of diving well into retirement.

Why Boston: So far they are the only co. (with their purchase of Cadance) that have a unit rated to 5 ATA - most of the others I have contacted only go to 2.5 or 3. I am not proposing them over other companies at all. If you know of a co. with a 5 ATA (or higher pressure) rating I would like to know about it.

There was talk here about St Judes - I called and they are only rated to 3 ATA.
