New pacemaker

Hi Friends,

Do you have also problems too make an appointment bij the
pm-controller.? Last nov. I had problems with my pm.I felt terrible, specially at night. My doctor could not find anything and he has too made an appointment fo me.He talked with my cardiologist and I got a holter for 24 hours. Two months before that my pm-controller asked me if I had an accident. He thought there was something with one of the leads. He discussed it with my cardiologist and changed something of the pm.When I had the holter that next morning I felt from the stairs, had a black-out.Called 112 and stayed in hospital.Felt dizzie had a headwound and bruises. They discovered that one of the leads was broken.I have an total AV_block,they told me that I was lucky, that it not happened when I went to work. After a few days I have gotten a new Medtronic pm.I am working again, but have trouble with climbing the stairs ,swimming ,biking.I do not have enough breath. So I called my cardiologist for making an apointment for the pm.controller.He told me a few times that I could phone him when I did't feel well. The assistent of the cardiologist would not make an appointment.Because it was"nt my pm.My doctor has to make an appointment for me,maybe that I must see my cardiologist. That also is a problem, the last seven years I saw him 4 times. My doctor from work did send him a letter because I did'nt felt well for a time, but he got no reaction. The last time I saw him for my pm-wound he told me that he always read my dossier. It made me depressed and angry. Why is it so difficult.I know they are very busy but I know what I feel.My doctor made an appointment for me 31 march.
He had some arguments with the assistent. He was angry too.
Hope you have not so much problems.

loves

Insist on speaking to someone else ...

by Swedeheart - 2008-03-23 01:03:46

If you are phoning and trying to get an appt. If the the receptionist or whoever is answering the phone... ask to speak directly to the Cardio's nurse. If that doesn't work you might go to the office and speak to someone face to face and insist you have an appt. to be seen.

When I have trouble (any health issue I feel is urgent) I simply show up at my doctor's office. They have a much harder time putting me off face to face.

You deserve to be seen, if this Cardio isn't responding to your needs, send him a registered letter and tell him you will be looking for someone else because of a lack of medical care!

It is difficult to get in and see these folks. When I had my first appt. my general doctor (along with 2 of his colleagues) phoned the EP doc to get me in quickly. It still took something like 2 1/2 weeks. Frustrating.

We all want to avoid going to ER, but sometimes that is all we can do when we can't get in to see our doctors. There has to be a better way.

Thanks for your post I have had my PM now 9 days and I have not followed up with my DR yet. I have been to the Hospital twice in the last two days and I hope I will not need to go again. Your story sounds like it would have made me upset and angry also. I have not seen a controller but may soon. Thanks for the post.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
