Handicap Permit

Well hello everyone its been awhile. How is everyone doing? Well Im having a problem at my College. I was told by campus safety that in order for them to continue to pick me up at my classes and drive me to my car that I would have to show proof of a disability, in the form of a Handicap Permit. I was wondering if anyone in here has gotten a Permit for them selfs and what the process would be to get one. I am not sure if my doctor will approve of it because I am not really disabled. I just have a very hard time walking to and from my car and classes at times in the Florida Heat.....

Thanks,
Britt<3

Handicap Permit

Hi - I ran into the same problem, only difference it was with the Pittsburgh cold and big hills to walk up. My cardiologist prepared a letter that I presented to the Office of Disability/Handicap at my University. My University issued me a Handicap parking permit that I was able to use for handicap parking on the campus as well as for the campus police to escort me when needed. I hope this is somewhat helpfu to you. Thanks.

So you should pick up your phone and call your Dr office and ask to speak to a nurse this can even be your family Dr. Tell them what your problem is and how its hard for you to walk the long distances and I am pretty sure it makes you tired.
I would then tell them what your school said and see if they can ask the Dr to write you a letter to get a sticker. All I had to do was take my note to the place that issued handicap stickers which in Iowa its the same place you get a license.
I really hope they will give you one or at least figure out a solution for you. Let me know how it works out. Miss talking to you Britt.

Much Love,
Tammy

Disability ?

Hi !, Britt,
I hope this does not offend anyone, it is certainly not intended to offend. I was curious as to the nature of your disability?
Can I assume it is a cardiac related problem?
A recent experience with a local doctor gave me a new view of attitudes towards recent illness.
A patient fitted with a PM. or ICD. is not considered "disabled" unless there are other cardiovascular problems which require treatment.
The same is true for recovering Cancer patients.

My personal experience (after having a PM.fitted) is that I am not disabled, in fact, I'm fitter now than I have ever been.
I hope you can feel the same way very soon.

temp permit

The doctor fills out a form and you take it to the DMV, same place you get your tags for your car. Ours is in the courthouse. I'm in FL also, that's what I did when I got one for my grandmother. I was in and out quickly, it was easy. You don't have to be 100% disabled and need it 100% of the time to qualify for it.

Permit

Your college should have an office that deals with handicap students. I suggest contacting them for help in getting the permit. Keep in mind that as far as the law is concerned "handicapped" doesn't mean you are totally disabled. Someone with a broken toe can be considered temporarily handicapped.

This is a legal requirement. The safety/security people are just following regulations.

I taught at a college in Calif for many years and we had regular meetings on this sort of thing.

good luck,

frank

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
