Burning

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to ask if anyone had any burning around their incision site. Its been 3 weeks since my surgery and every time i touch around the incision it burns and yesterday it was oozing and bleeding. Sorry If this grosses anyone out but I just wanted some answers. It is just driving me crazy because when i move my arm it rubs my bra strap and hurts like crazy.

Thanks,
Britt

Burning

Hi,
I've had my devise for about 19-mos and dont remember any specific 'burning' sensations. -- tenderness yes!
I woould assume that you'll be going back to see the cardio-doc soon and I'd mention the burning to them at that time.
In the meantime, you can always call the doc's office and talk to a PA or to a nurse and explain the oozing and burning sensation and see what they advise.

tks
Rick

Call the Dr.

I'd call your Dr., oozing and bleeding isn't a good sign. It could be infected.

Yes, Britt, my bra strap & swim suit strap did cause a big "ouch" often. It's worth it to go without a bra for a while, and I did find out my Speedo works just great using just one strap until that tenderness goes away. It should not be bleeding or oozing at all, so call your doctor and let them know right away. It is not worth the stress it is causing you to wait. As far as the bra strap, just layer your shirt open over a sweater or t-shirt and no one will know the difference and you won't hurt! aldeer

Burning sensations.......I cannot remember the sensations of burning being that prevalant. I did find it rather irritating waring a bra, and a seat belt strap. I was able to resolve both those problems. Also, I ensured that I did not lift anything more then 10 pounds for the first 6 weeks (actually favored that arm to a degree). After my 6 weeks was up, I started gradually using the left arm more and more..... You mentioned oozing and bleeding....if it is alot, then I would be going to your Doctor. I do think some is to be expected, and considered normal

I'm with Kyle

Britt,

You really need to call your doctor because oozing and bleeding is NOT normal. It sounds infected. Don't wait for a follow-up appointment to have this checked.

Thanks everyone.....I called the Dr's today but their office was closed for the holiday's, So I am going to keep trying until I reach them. Since im out of town I may just go see my old doctor. When I went for my follow up before he said it was slightly infected so he gave me some antibiotics but I think the infection got worse.
As for the bra strap thing Aldeer I dont think not wearing a bra will work for me. But that you everyone for your advice.....

Hi- I just had to have my lead replaced and I checked my sheet and for any of the symptoms you listed they said to immediately call the doctor- if yours is not available I would go to the ER.

Fair skin = possible burning

by dward - 2007-12-28 03:12:31

I DID have burning aroung my incision. My Dermatologist (I was seeing for another minor issue) said it was likely because I am fair skinned. Some people can get a certain kind of scarring (he had an actual name for it, but I forget). He gave me a cream for it and it helped quite a bit!

HOWEVER - before thinking about creams etc., I agree you should get the area looked at to ensure any possible infection is under control. If it is getting worse, I would go to a walk-in clinic or hospital.

Called DR

by OIMAPRINCESS2477 - 2007-12-28 10:12:13

Hey everyone I finally got ahold of the Dr today. He called in some meds to help with the infection and said if it got worse to go to the ER......I also had my brother check it out the other night he is a firefighter/paramedic and he said that it didn't look to bad but if I got a fever and it was still oozing then I needed to got to the ER. Thank you everyone for you help and advice.....

I've had stinging

by adean_1969 - 2007-12-28 12:12:24

Sorry, Britt, just now reading the boards ... I'm a little behind.

My pm insertion was in July 2007 and I've had a stinging sensation ever since. It has decreased slightly, but it is bothersome. No oozing or infection, but I agree that's the case and if I were you I'd push my physician to give IV antibiotics to knock it out faster.

I also struggled with bra issues in the beginning. Took me a couple of months to adapt and for it not to bother me any longer. I still suffer with the seat belt! But, I wear it slightly over my actual shoulder instead of the area between my shoulder and neck. Seems to help.

Gook luck to ya'!!!

Infection

by ElectricFrank - 2008-01-01 02:01:06

I wouldn't mess around with a potential infection. With antibiotics becoming resistant these days something simple could turn nasty. Also, since there are leads from the pacemaker that penetrate a vein there is always the possibility of infection getting into your blood stream. If you have any sign of chills or fever, get to emergency fast.
I don't want to scare you, but several years back when I first visited this site there were several cases of blood infection.

Update

Well the antibiotic didnt seem to help. There is something that is preventing a hole about the size of a pen tip from closing. I have and appt with my EP on Wens.9th to see what could be the problem. Thank you everyone for all your advice.
