You'll be fine.

I know it's easy for me to say but don't worry. this is a piece of cake. It only takes about an hour and when you wake up it will be like a nice nap. Plus you get a few days off after to rest and have people wait on you hand and foot. Take advantage of it this doesn't happen very often. After the first day i did not have to have anything stronger than alive to take care of pain. Just remember not to raise your arm over your head for about 3 weeks. And don't lift anything heavy. Be sure and let us all know after the procedure how your doing. Everyone is on your side and there with you. Just like Verizon you have your network. Hang in there and break a leg. Oops sorry that's a different network. Bowlrbob

Allow yourself time to heal

The fear of the "unknown" can be our biggest enemy!
:-) It's really not as scary as it sounds. You will be fine. Like Bowlrbob said, take advantage of everyone waiting on you for a while. You will have some soreness in the area of the pm but it will go away. It wouldn't surprise me if you were on here tomorrow night letting us know how great you are doing. :-)

Best wishes to you!!

we all go through this before the procedure but i totally agree with the other comments that it probably will surprize you when you wake up that anything was done. just listen to the doc and you will sail through well. good luck...welcome to the club!

I just had my 3rd pacemaker two weeks ago.  I was scared but trust me...it was so easy!  I know it is hard to believe but you will look back in a few days and won't believe how you will feel.  All the worry will be behind you and life will be great! Donna

We're Here

Your second family is here anytime you need us! You are going to be fine. Get lots of rest and take it easy for a few days. Don't worry about the scar, remember it takes some time but it isn't going to be terrible. You are in my prayers.

Let us know how you are doing as soon as you feel like getting to the computer.

We've all been there!!

What I'd like to tell you is that most of us have felt the same anxiety that you're feeling right now and we made it through the procedure and continue to support one another about the subjective things that our docs haven't a clue about (that is unless they have a PM) As Michelle said a lot has to do with fear of the unknown...even though you know technically what will be done....it still has that unknown element. You will be getting some nice relaxing meds so you won't care too much or even remember much about what your doctor is doing. Try to get some sleep tonight...yeah right, huh!!! But do try, we will all be here for you to answer any questions you may have once you get home. The scar will eventually fade and like Bowlrbob said, over-the-counter pain meds will most likely be enough to handle the soreness you'll experience for a few days or so. You will be Okay. God Bless, Carol

It won't be long until you are just like me...a few days after the procedure and so glad it's behind you. It's not nearly that bad. I was 3 months shy of being 21 yr. when I had my first PM. But, you see, it's become second nature because I am pacemaker dependent and realize the seriousness of neglecting my PM. Sounds like you've had some medical procedures and are used to being around hospitals. I just keep thinking how very fortunate I am not to have liked prior to this medical technology.
Take care,
TexasLinda

Sorry I am late on getting this too you. I hope that your procedure goes great. I was 21 when I got my pm I am 22 now. I have almost had it for a year. I did not have the time like you did to sit and worry about a scar etc. Mine was done emergency. No reason to stress over a little scar. Let me tell you, you can still hide it and wear cute shirts and what not. You will be fine. If you need somebody to talk to feel free to private message me and I will give you my info.
Oh and take time with your recovery enjoy watching movies and being lazy for a while. Letting your body rest is the best way for it to heal. Best of luck!

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
