Pacing

When I go in to have my pm checked by the rep. (Mine is a
medtronic.) what questions should I be asking? What determines the pacing rate, and just what does that mean and how does it effect the life of the battery? I had an av node ablation and a one lead. I really would like to have the knowledge that I should have before I go in. Thanks for all the past help... aldeer

Just be sure to tell the person doing the check that you want a copy of the printout. After you have studed a few of them you will begin to understand them a little.I keep a log of what I do each day, then I can compare the printout with that, you can learn a lot that way.

Hi -

I think you questions are great! Unfortunately, I don't have answers to them, but I'm anxious to see if anyone out there does.

I've had my PM coming up for four years and I find that my heartrate is higher than the pace (60) that it is set at and that bothers me. I want to discuss that with the doc at my next appointment and don't know how important it is. Recently, I've been trying and regaining my life back by exercising. I tried swimming again. I was an avid swimmer before this happened and no one bothered to tell me that you can't get an aerobic heart rate from swimming with a PM. I wish these things came with an owner's manual. I got more paperwork with my clock radio than with this thing! So, I want to hear what other people have to say about your questions, because I'm interesting in the same things too.

Thanks for asking them.
