Amiodarone and Satin Cholesterol pills.

Amiodarone and Satin Cholesterol pills.

About 5 years ago, my General Practitioner changed my Zocor 10Mg cholesterol pill for a Lipitor 10mg. and it took me a while to realize that I had diarrhea more and more often, and had muscle cramps and joint pains. On a few special occasions, I took Imodium to control the diarrhea and it was successful. One day, before a sport tournament that I was participating in, I took half an Imodium and for the next 20 hours, I had belly cramps and couldn’t relieve myself no matter what I did. I felt better in the morning but decided to go to the local ER. To my surprise, I was quickly admitted when the Doc told me that I had arrhythmia. Very strange, because I never had hearth problems before. Chemical treatments were ineffective so I had a cardioversion and given a Lanoxin pill to take daily and my cholesterol pill was changed for Zocor 40MG (4 times as strong as previous). The side effect caused by this other cholesterol satin pill got worse and worse but for a while I thought that it was normal at my age to have body pains. (I was 70 then). A 1 ½ year later during a routine test, the cardiologist noticed again a sign of Arrhythmia and it could only be cleared by another cardioversion. I was prescribed Amiodarone 100MG and the Zocor pill 40MG remained as a prescription. I have learned later that if Amiodarone and Zocor are given together, the side effects of Zocor are increased by more than 4 times. I experienced loosening of the skin, sensitivity to sunlight, skin redness, trouble sleeping, back pain and side pain and others pains that I have learned to live with. I am still convinced that my arrhythmia was caused in both instances by extreme efforts that I made to keep regular bowel movements . I changed cardiologist and told him that I quit using Zocor and that I was feeling much better and slowly recuperating. He told me that at my age considering my medical record, to get away from Cholesterol pill and take instead 1000MG a day of highly distilled Omega 3 and I followed his advice and felt better and better. Last year in June, I fainted and was taken to ER. All tests proved negative and because of my previous Arrhythmia, the only solution was to install a Pacemaker. It did not change much in my regular activities except that from this point on, I had less and less energy and was out of breath going up one flight of stairs. A few weeks ago, my cardiologist gave me an appointment for a 6 months PM check and ask for a lung X-Ray and special blood test. I learned that the Amiodarone can affect the functioning of the thyroid gland and users should be tested regularly. I quit using the pill immediately after my blood test and told the cardiologist on my last visit that I quit taking the Amiodarone 30 days before and that I was feeling much better. I was told that It can take as much as 6 months for the accumulated side effects of Amiodarone to leave your system even though 100MG is considered a small dosage. I was given Sotalol and so far so good I feel better from day to day. I am not mentioning the pils that I was given in the past to fight the side effects. Vioox, Celebrex, Nexium are a few of them. All of these pills created more side effects. I will take as little pills in the future as I can in order to die healthy at an old age.
