Meds

So, just a simple, hopefuly nonoffensive question. I have been off medications for...lets see since i was 8..now i'm almost 15...about 7 years. But i keep getting questions from new doctors and shocked responses when I say no. Anyone else not need to take meds? Just curious, I had to stop taking them when i was younger because they stunted my growth!! I was wondering because it seems like I'm the only one! But probably not.

stunting growth?

by pacergirl - 2007-12-13 06:12:01

Hi Marisa, I take meds because of the pacer. I don't think in stunts my growth though because I have gained about 8 pounds!
If you feel fine... where is the problem?
Always great to read your post!
Take care,
pacers are growing everyday!

Hi, Marisa,

I think medication is an individual thing. I have never taken any meds at all and have had a pacemaker for 32 years.
Let's see, I was 26 when I got my pacemaker. Please don't add. LOL
If you don't need them, that's a good thing!
Best to you!

I am 43 and have had my PM for a year and a half. I haven't taken any meds. I am quite happy not to have the side effects that many of the medicines cause!

Hi. I do take meds., Coreg, Lisiniprol and coumadin. The lisinopril and coumadin I was taking before my pacer. The coumadin I'll probably be on for life (wich wish I didn't have to be. I taking the INR tests, it's messed up right now because of antibiotics so extra blood tests. Whoopee.) I started taking it because they found a blood clot, near my heart. Not good. at least they caught this one. I had a stroke when I was 22 (a month before my birthday) from a clot. I was on coumadin for a while and then was able to switch to asprin.

Lucky You!!

Hi Marisa, I have to take meds but sure wish I didn't! But, I'm a lot older than you are too!!! Anyway, looks like there are a few others out there who don't need to pop pills. So, just keep on shocking those Docs !! Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. Your fellow pacer from florida, Carol.

GREAT!

I am 51 and have had my pm for 17 months. I was on meds at first but the EP took me off them and what a difference! I felt horrible with the beta blocker. But I would say we are lucky to not have to take them. There are so many different reasons people are on the meds, but at least we are all here and kicking!

Hello Marisa

Got a question for you? Do you have a pacemaker? You don't say, not that it really matters. As for the meds, some people have to take them and some don't. It is not a personal choice. As for having a pacemaker that should not have any effect on whether a person does or does not take a medicine. Now the heart problem that caused them to get the pacemaker may cause them to also have to take medicine.

When I was your age I did not take any medicines. In fact I was about 40 before I started taking medicines. And the meds I take today are the same as I was taking at least 15 years before I got my pacemaker. I got my PM about 5 years ago and I have had no meds added to my list. So count your blessings that you have not reached the point that you will have to start meds.

I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hello! I have had my PM since 15 hours old (you already know this) and you mentioned something about growth. To my knowledge I have not needed meds at all. Very Strange...
