I saw this quote on here from someone else and now of course it has a completely different context.
I wonder if Gerry was thinking about IPGs when he or his group came up with that name?
I doubt it.
In my imagination, I can see Gerry belting out You'll never walk alone with his backing group of two lead pacemakers strumming their guitars and bashing the drums at 60 BPM.
Gerry could always get together with the Mersybeats.

Yes, there were so many groups then.
There was a song by Buck Owens "My heart skipped a beat. Time for an ECG.
You know you're wired when...
Muggers want your ICD, not your wallet.

Here in America, the group was very popular. I love their songs, especially:
Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying
Ferry Cross the Mersey
I'll Be There
I never heard them sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" until a few years ago!
I read this online:
Gerry had had triple heart bypass surgery in 2003 and a second heart operation in 2016 when, he said, he'd been given a heart pacemaker but didn't find the irony at all funny.
I read that they played a club and the club's owner suggested the name to the band, and they adopted it, becoming known as Gerry and the Pacemakers.
Sadly he died of a blood infection in the heart.
