Leaving comments in old threads

I am still finding members are leaving comments in very old threads - please see post below from member tuck3lin.

Our current computer system doesn’t automatically bump new comments to the top of the new message board, so any comments you leave in older posts or even add to posts that are more than say a month old, may not be seen, unless you create a new message.  Furthermore, we are still not receiving “notification” of comments or of private messages received and unless we actively look for them, we will miss them.

I hope in the future we will have a system that works better to manage these ongoing difficulties, but until that time, all we can do is to start a new message, rather than leave our comments/questions attached to older posts.  Thank you everyone for all your patience.

Addng to very old threads would be a no-no with many other forums.

Some are very strict on when threads are closed after say 120 days of inactivity and you can get some pretty forthright comments if you try.

Another issue is posts that are put up, asking for advice etc., a fair amount of work goes into replies and that's the last you hear of it.

Again, other forums operate quite strict rules on new posts, and there can be some shirty comments if it's thought that someone isn't entering the spirit of the forum.

We all lead busy lives, but like to help as best we can.

Non Responders

Piglet, thank you for your comments which are sadly all too valid.  Hopefully our responses to a new message will be of some value to the original poster, or at least to other members of this Club.  Wish we had a “like” or “thumbs up” button.

I don’t visit other groups very often nowadays.  Some Facebook groups clearly still automatically bump up new comments to older posts, even years after the original message was first posted since I am still noticing this from my AFib forum. That would certainly help here because I am still seeing far too many comments/questions attached to older threads which may never be seen, or answered.

New comments to older posts will always be relevant and helpful to members searching this forum, but starting a new post on the same subject will be seen and answered more quickly - hopefully

Thanks Gemita

The Pacemaker Club is notable for it's very specialised focus.on such an important part of us patients day to day lives.

You get the initial shock of the the first diagnosis then you get your implanted device which essentially keeps you going for the rest of your life.

It certainly isn't a run of the mill chatroom and I suspect that you regard participating as an important part of your life.

I take part in quite a few forums/discussion groups which either interest me or after many decades, I might have some experience to share.

I don't do any form of "social media"

I contribute to some diverse groups from HMRC (tax), BBC (news), Arduino (microcontrollers), BT (telecommunications), DIY etc.

All of them operate likes, kudos, helpful merits which gives you confidence in the quality of answers and some personal satisfaction.

Whether or not that would suit the PM Club, I don't know.

Likes and dislikes can be used in bad ways as well.

It's always disappointing to get items "please help", "need advice" then nothing.

Sometimes it's just plain manners or sociability.

I've seen on several forums comments that the forum is dying because of lack of support. I certainly hope that never happens here.

The above question is why i look at their bio before giving an answer sometimes or not.  Then ask them to fill in their bio. I understand that their bio can be false, at least they took the time to put something in. I agree with all the above comments, esp. about taking our/my time to answer and then never seeing a thanks to our reply.

I have to say I am put off too by the sheer number of non responders on this forum, especially when some Posters go to such lengths to tell us about their worrying symptoms and then suddenly go quiet, leaving us wondering if they are okay?  I can only conclude sometimes that they have taken a turn for the worst when they don’t respond, or that their post may have been a fake one from the start?  I am afraid the latter is still happening occasionally and I really don’t know what the answer is anymore.

I continue to think however that any comments made to a new post by kind, caring members will be of some value to those reading our messages, even if the original poster doesn’t find them of interest.

Piglet, I too hope this site never dies from lack of support.  I think it is quite a rare find but we all lead such busy lives and each post can be a study in itself and take a lot of time to answer

You know you're wired when...

Airport security welcomes you.
