You shouldn't dismiss rigors

Rigors are usually a symptom of bacteria in your bloodstream, or some other pyrogen (modern medical equipment that goes into the body is usually labelled sterile and pyrogen free).

IMHO, you won't get rigors from a cold or nasty chest infection unless there's an element of bacteraemia.  Common causes of rigors in people who haven't recently been the subject of invasive medical procedures include dental problems - abscess etc., urinary tract infection (esp. if recently catheterised), pieces of thorn in fingers/arms from gardening, scratches from infected nails, thorns, animal claws.  You get the idea.

The big risk for us with implanted pacing leads is that the bacteria can stick onto the leads and then they are much more difficult for your immune system to kill.  And the consequences are seriously bad.

You know you're wired when...
