I'm new to this pacemaker club and have a Biotronik Cardio Messenger by my bed. I'm told that as long as it has an "OK" showing on it, I shouldn't worry about my pacemaker. It's been over 3 months now since my pacemaker was installed and no other instructions except a Patient app for my iphone. I've tried using the Patient app, but it won't work from my house, only if I'm out and about. I contacted Biotronik and they said to use the cellular or the wifi, but I tried both and still no luck. Any suggestions to what could be the problem? Thank you!

My experience

I too have the beside Biotronik Messenger, plus the Patient App installed on my Android phone.
The Messenger is the important thing. It interrogates your pacemaker and sends a report every night to Biotronik. If their scanning system, or your PM clinic, detects a problem, a new icon will appear on your Messenger screen in the form of a telephone handset and a "+" sign. This is all explained in the Messenger instruction book. You should then contact your PM clinic, or they will already have contacted you.
If there is no extra icon, and your PM clinic has not phoned you, then I think you can assume that all is indeed OK. I have never had a problem, but a friend of mine was phoned one moring by his PM clinic to ask if he was all right: they had been alerted to irregular heart rhythms by this very system. They are watching you!
The Patient App adds nothing to this setup (in my opinion). To function properly, it has to be within Bluetooth range of your bedside Messenger. Biotronik's message to you has already described the App's functions: it basically gives you background information about you and your device. It is not essential for the correct operation of the system. The only thing I use it for is its "Home Monitoring" option. It tells me when the bedside Messenger last sent a report to Biotronik. Normally, for me, that is about 1.30am. I just do it for reassurance that the system is working. If the Patient App didn't work for me, I wouldn't have lost very much!
So I don't know why your App is not working, but I just wanted to let you know that it shouldn't be a matter of great concern.

I just wanted to thank you all for your response. I'm not going to worry about it. I know it works in some locations in town, just not my location. Thank you!

I have the Biotronik Cardio Messenger as well. I do not have the app, but my provider set up transmissions for every 3 months. I receive a auto call saying that I need to be near my device on x date. My transmission report gets reviewed by my cardiologist and it is viewable in my EMR.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
The Biotronik app

I contacted their support group and here was their response. Perhaps this might help out.
<< Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry.
Biotronik does have a patient app, however it is up to each clinic whether they use the app with their patients or not. The app does not monitor the pacemaker. Instead it provides you with your electronic ID card, a symptom diary, your average heart rate, and information on troubleshooting your home monitoring device.
If you are interested in using the app, please contact your cardiology office to see if they support the app. If they do, they will be able to provide you with the information necessary to download the app and register your device. >>
