Angiogram Results

My cardiac doctor ordered a heart CT Scan for me which I had on April 1, 2024, after the pacer clinic accidentally turned my 100% pacer off during my yearly screening causing cardiac arrest again, and could not restart my pacer.  Trip to the ER who restarted my paver.

Angiogram Results:

1. There is stable prominence of the ascending aorta measuring approximately 4.3 cm in diameter.

2. There is a 2.4 cm nodule in the right lobe of the thyroid. A dedicated thyroid ultrasound is recommended for further evaluation.  I have been having trouble swallowing and choking, breathing, sleeping, changing my voice, etc. the past several months.

I didn’t realize the thyroid is so connected with my heart.  Has anyone had an issue with your thyroid gland after your pacer was inserted and how did you find out?

Stache, I am so sorry to hear about your difficulties which started at your annual pacemaker check and still continues it seems.  Cannot believe that you had another cardiac arrest and I hope that your CT scan doesn’t show any worrying signs from that event.  Please let us know when you get the results.

My husband suffers from hyperthyroidism (we both have pacemakers) and it can affect so many of his organs:  the bowel, kidneys, heart.  I know when his thyroid problem is not well controlled because he can become irritable, have trouble sleeping, have noticeable muscle weakness, becomes hyperactive and has many abnormal heart rhythms like Atrial Fibrillation.

I see that you have a thyroid nodule and I am sure they will want to keep an eye on this because it is over 2 cm.  My husband has a sizeable one too but with thyroid medication (Carbimazole) he hasn’t needed treatment for it although thyroid nodules usually enlarge over time.  Any nodule that is 4 cm or larger should be removed with thyroid surgery.

An ascending aortic aneurysm greater than 5.5 centimeters requires surgery.  I note you have a 4.3 cm diameter ascending aorta which appears stable.  I hope it remains this way.

Thank you Stache for the update.  I do hope you will soon be feeling more comfortable and that they can get your thyroid under good control.

CT's

I have come to hate CT's, because they often find stuff that they were not looking for. However, I guess that we should consider that a blessing. Fortunately, they are pretty quick and easy. In any case, your aneurysm at 4.3 cm is relatively small and very minor. Nothing to worry about with that. Also, often many nodules that they find turn-out to be nothing (benign). If it is a problem, it is very fixable. So just get the follow-up as recommended and try not to worry about it.

I wish you the very best!

Dave

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.
