hi guys,
I had heart block problem before and got the bypass surgery for it and I've got pacemaker in it already in my left chest.
Before I have heart attacked and bypass surgery, I am very active person when I am working ( I work as gas cylinder filler, so yeah its hard work) and I did outdoor sport activity like running, fishing, swimming.
4 month after heart surgery and pacemaker inserted in my left chest I feel normal again just like before.
Now the question is, I've got job offer as dump truck driver at mining, so the job will be like driving for 12 hours a day and 7 days a week, and the shift is two weeks working and 1 week off.
I am thinking, can I do that job as dump truck driver? should I do it? I really want to resigned from my current job and working as dump truck driver.
And also I am thinking, if the new job offer do health assesment, will I pass the test? I heard they did x ray test for chest. As you know i have pacemaker already and I am worried if I am failed on this test cause I have pacemaker.
I am 53 years old btw and still strong and feel young just like before I have heart surgery when I am working because I always working hard.
any opinion please?

CDL

Check the drivers license requirements where you live. A commercial license is usually ok with a pacer, but not icd.
Always be upfront about it. It's better to be told no because of it now than hide it and have it bite you in the butt later. And you don't want any issues with insurance coverage.
Should you take the job?

Should you take the job? If you want it, then absolutely you should take it. I have a CDL. Having a PM with a CDL is no problem at all here in the U.S. As Tracey said: as long as it is not an ICD. So you should be good to go, but hopefully an Aussie will chime in that knows the AU. Same with changing jobs. You cannot be prevented from taking a job as long as you are capable of doing it. Here in the U.S. (and perhaps elsewhere) you cannot be discriminated against just, because you have a PM. That is; as long as you can perform the duties of the job and do not present a risk to yourself or others. A PM does not cross that line. I have to think the AU is similar to the U.S. in that regard.
Wishing you the best!
Dave
